I read great things about this company.  The positives were the movers were very nice and professional.  No talking (aka cursing) on the phone during the move like I have experienced with other companies. NMy big rant comes from them overbooking and not showing up to move the contents of my apartment from 1 floor to another in the same building with an elevator.  They didn't show up until 6 pm the day of the move, even after I repeatedly left messages on their answering machine.  Promptly at 8pm, they said they were finished for the day and what else was absolutely necessary for them to move. Half of my boxes and stuff were still needing to be moved!!!  I am handicapped, but ended up having to move the rest of the stuff myself for the next several hours.  I was pissed!  If they couldn't/wouldn't work past 8, then hey shouldn't have taken my job that day.

Oh Mambo! I had such high hopes. I've moved several times in my adult life, and only once before had I hired movers, and it was to move across the country. That experience was such a nightmare that when we moved back to Philly, we rented the biggest moving truck we could find and hauled it all ourselves! This experience was not exactly a nightmare, but it wasn't the easy breezy experience I had hoped for based on so many positive reviews. I shall explain...For this move, we were going from a 3BR rowhome in NE Philly to a storage unit. When I called around for quotes to move this time, they were all over the place. I got everything from $600 for 4 hours to $1800 for 8 hours. So I turned to Facebook and asked for recommendations. Mambo came highly recommended by two friends with close ties to the company. I also liked that they pro-rate the move if they go over the quoted time - so if they quote 4 hours, but they moved for 4.5 hours, they don't round up to 5 hours, you pay for 4.5 hours. By the time I had gotten to Mambo for a quote, I already knew I had to provide a detailed list of what was in my house that would have to be moved. I had a list of every piece of furniture in every room of my house, and estimated the number of boxes. The only thing I left out by accident was my patio furniture. Mambo had a detailed list, they quoted me 3 men, 6 hours, and $792. This seemed fair and sounded about right to me. So Mambo got the job.So moving day comes, and three funny, spry, nice guys show up just after 10am, and they begin to do a walkthru of my house and it was just downhill from there. I don't remember who said what, but somehow I either heard from one of them or overheard that they were booked to go to another job at 3. This immediately made them all frustrated, and I don't blame them one bit. They must have felt like they were being set up to fail. And aside from that, I was quoted for 6 hours - which should have covered me to 4pm. In addition, one of the guys said that the moving list they had, had a detailed list of what was in all the bedrooms, but then it basically said "and everything else in the house". Which was obviously not the list that I had emailed to them! As a result, they were very concerned that they would not fit everything into the truck they brought. I was worried about this myself.  So without further ado they began their work. I do not feel as though they dilly-dallied around, I felt that they worked at a good pace.So here are my misgivings about the job. The day started out tough for them, and I could sense their level of frustration. I overheard them say several things to each other (an emptying house echoes and voices carry easily) that at first made me feel like this was all my fault and I really fucked up. But, it was NOT my fault, and I don't think they said things intending to make me feel that way. I think they were just frustrated with the job and they had every right to be, but I guess what sucked is that moving day is stressful enough for the homeowners as it is - for the MOVERS to be stressed, and this is their job, it just doesn't help things. I have felt that way at work before and I know how it can end up snowballing and making all the small things seem that much worse, and this seemed to be the kind of day they were having, and I felt bad, but it wasn't really my fault. I apologized at several points throughout the job and they did say 'don't apologize, this is our job, etc', but I couldn't help but feel in the back of my mind that some of it was directed at me. I even went back and checked my original email to them - and everything was listed. They had a bear of a time trying to move my fridge, and had to take doors off, and doorway molding, and getting furniture out of my basement was very tricky, again requiring the removal of doors, and I know this all sucked. But, it's part of the job. And, I feel like maybe the quoting protocol should include a visit to the house to estimate the job properly. Maybe then there's less risk of underestimating the job and overbooking the guys. When all was said and done, they filled their truck to capacity but did not empty my house, so we still have some moving left to do. They only went over the original quoted time by 1.5 hours, which was not bad and I was prepared for. I had nowhere to be in any hurry, so I didn't feel the need to rush them along and be a thorn in their side when they were already dealt what seemed to be a shitty hand for the day. I tipped them well, because I do think they did a great job given the circumstances. And at the end of the day they even offered to help my husband unload his pickup into our storage unit as well. But my recommendation to the company is to refine their quoting protocol a little bit, and if anything is up in the air, perhaps a visit to the house is necessary. I would recommend them, but I would recommend that you confirm your detailed list with them before moving day.

Very bad moving experience with mambo movers recently.I had reserved a move 1.5 week ahead to time, called prior to confirm and even received a call from the company to confirm my reservation. On the day/time of the said move, I heard nothing, ended up calling the office a good dozen times and left voicemails. 2 hours after they movers were supposed to be there I finally heard back, about how it was lunch hour and everyone was away. And then was told that the "they were trying to track a crew", about an hour later I finally got an update saying they found a crew, this was about 6 hours after the planned move time.Absolutely bad experience, I had to scramble to get a second company from craigslist. Very unfortunate given that I was moving out of state and had explained to them several times, that I had time constraints. Did not even get any sort of apology from them, just some line saying "they were tied in with the prior move and elevators weren't working or something"Poor communication and costumer service. Caution with this company.

Recently had to arrange for a complicated move with more than 1 stop and more than 1 drop off. I called to get a quote and the guy who was helping me was so friendly and assured me that they would be able to handle my move without a problem because they had a few tricks up their sleeves for city moves. The rate we got from Mambo movers was significantly more reasonable than competitors for the job I was trying to accomplish. The move was scheduled in the afternoon (no time actually specified) and we were kind of waiting around hoping they'd call at 12, but they actually called when they were about 45 minutes away and arrived closer to 3. Waiting for a call was the worst part, but that was more due to my own moving stress. Once they arrived, in walk these three super tall, skinny guys. They were so incredibly nice and professional, and relieved so much of the moving stress I had. They also made moving one of my items my 6 foot tall heavy as F wooden cat tree look super easy. The one guy carried it with only one arm!! They were pretty much in and out of each pickup location once given instruction and very politely and carefully unloaded things to each designated drop off location. I ordered pizza for them to eat so that it could arrive by the time I thought they'd be finished, but they were done before the pizza was delivered to the last drop off location. Will definitely give Mambo a call for the next move!

We just used Mambo to move our separate places (large 1 bedroom + large studio) into a new apartment this past weekend. The crew of 3 guys couldn't have been nicer or easier to work with. They were professional but still very casual and friendly - happy to chat or offer suggestions along the way.I found them to be worth every penny and I was happy to tip them for their speedy and great work - especially on such a hot July day.Our stuff arrived safely, unbroken, and without issue. Even the slight hiccup of neighbors not obeying the Temporary "No Parking" Signs didn't phase Mambo too much.Mambo also moved my boyfriend into his previous apartment last summer, and they were super quick and just as nice/professional.
