History

Established in 1985. Two Men and a Truck® started in the early 1980s as a way for two brothers to make extra money while they were in high school. Now, more than 30 years later, the company has grown to over 330 locations worldwide. Brothers Brig Sorber and Jon Sorber started moving people in the Lansing, Mich., area using an old pickup truck. Their mom, Mary Ellen Sheets, developed a logo to put in a weekly community newspaper. That stickmen logo still rests on every truck, sign, and advertisement three decades later. After the brothers left for college, Sheets continued to field calls for moving services while she also worked a full-time data processing job with the State of Michigan. In 1985, she decided to make things official by purchasing a 14-foot truck for $350 and hiring a pair of movers. That $350 is the only capital Sheets has ever invested in the company.

I hired Two Men and a Truck based on past experiences. Recently I hired them to move furniture from one room to another.  Unfortunately the movers rubbed the couch against the wall and which made a large mark on the wall which now needs to be repainted.   I may use them again in the future, but will definitely request a different crew.  One crew member offered to charge me a lower rate if I would hire them directly should I need them again.

I needed to move from one office inside a building to another office in the same building.  Easy, peasy.  So, I thought it didn't matter who I called.  IT MATTERS.These guys should be called two idiots and a truck. They showed up approximately on time, with no equipment.  No dollies, no pads, nothing.  They did have paperwork saying that their minimum went up from 2 hours to 3 and something else.  I was already nervous about their ability, so I told them that if they wanted 3 hours they could just leave.  It couldn't possibly take 3 hours to move a 2 man office down the hall.  They caved on that. After beginning to move the stuff by hand, the one guy decided that he just had to have dollies, so he left !  Probably a good decision, but can't they get someone to bring stuff to them?  Slowly, but surely our stuff is moving down the hall.  I didn't trust them with everything, so I began to wheel some stuff down the hall in my desk chair.  My back was sore, why carry it?  The remaining mover thought that looked pretty smart, so he took another chair and followed me.  When we got to the new place, I unloaded and started rolling the chair back.  The mover showed up about 2 minutes later . . . no chair.  Now he wants to borrow mine !!  I said "What, you want to borrow the DOLLY?"  I think he got the annoyance, but YES, he wanted to borrow the dolly / chair.Eventually the other guy did return with real dollies and the final pieces made their way down the hall.  They still finished in less than 2 hours, even with only 1 man for half of it and inadequate equipment.  But this was nowhere near as easy as it should have been.Oh yes, they insisted on cash payment, even though that had never been mentioned on the scheduling call.  I anticipated cash, so that wasn't the problem, just one more piece of evidence that they are a very poorly run company.

Reading these reviews only makes me angrier that my experience was so horrible. My experience with two men and a truck was nothing short of traumatizing. I usually use new city, but wanted to save on transportation costs from the city to the suburbs so called the Schaumburg office. First, they charge $50 more than new city, but whatever. I figured they would do just as good of a job. Well, in sum, 4 guys showed up and started tossing everything in, not reinforcing any boxes that were weak, not wrapping anything. They didnt even give us the option! we figured it was a given. After they broke a candle and left the glass all over the floor for me to walk in and stick myself with, I finally asked if they could secure the items better. The crew leader said yes, they have blankets and Saran Wrap. They did nothing of the sort! I trusted them with my only antique - a tall mid-century modern lamp. I should've known something was wrong when they realized they couldn't fit a ton of things and left them...it was a huge truck and nothing was secured. We arrive at the new house and wait. The crew takes a TWO HOUR lunch break. Then comes the unpacking. The couch, not wrapped, was ripped on the back. All of the bags were ripped and clothes were falling out. The lamp had been tossed in unwrapped and unsecured. It was broken in three places. It brought me, embarrassingly, to tears. The crew lead felt terrible, or at least acted it, and (wrongly) assured me they would pay for it to be fixed. When I told them it might be expensive since I needed to take it to a professional, he said it was ok.He was so nice that I forgave the couch, the glass on the floor, the boxes/bags , the 2-hour lunch and my lamp and tipped them generously. We also gave them a tv stand and window unit air conditioner. They promised to make up for everything! I am such a huge sucker. When I had not heard from two men about the multiple damage claims, I called and spoke with James. James said they would be me $1.50 for the lamp (.30 per pound). The team lead lied so I would tip them! After many back an forths, explaining how I had been horribly misinformed and cheated out of our generous tip, he still balked all responsibility. Now, a week later, I am stuck with a repair that I just found out will cost $150! No one, not even corporate, has agreed to compensate us, as we were promised.Add the couch, the money for the truck we had to rent, and the emotional distress, I am horribly disgusted with this terrible business. $150 for an antique lamp is nothing. They could not care less about their clients.Consider yourself warned.

We got our estaminet and was given a fair price and was told that they would easily be able to handle our stuff in the next few days. We had a date agreed upon. The next day we are told that they wouldn't be able to get to us till the next week. We can't be here another week, so basically they screwed us and now I'm scrambling to find a new way to move the day before I have to. Thanks guys.
