Since 1945, U-Haul has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households. Like many other successful ventures, the concept for U-Haul was generated out of need. After World War II, there existed the widespread need for do-it-yourself moving equipment that would be available on a one-way, nationwide basis. U-Haul co-founders L.S. «Sam» Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, recognized that need and acted upon it. Their visionary approach spread the cost of ownership among many users, facilitating the mobility of the populations of the U.S. and Canada.

The covered wagon of the pioneers morphed into orange U-Haul trailers. In the process, an industry was born. Discharged from the Navy in the summer of 1945, 29-year-old Sam and Anna Mary tried to rent a utility trailer to move their possessions from Los Angeles to Portland, Ore. It couldn't be done. They had to take only what they could fit in the car. «No one, at that time, seemed ready or willing to serve that need.» «Small luggage-type passenger automobile trailers were being rented from 'rental lots' in Los Angeles. Each lot had from 20 to 40 trailers which were rented locally for approximately $2 per day,» recalled Shoen in his book «You and Me,» «I recognized that here was an item with considerable utility value which had not been exploited at all in the Northwest or in the San Francisco-Oakland area.

I was intrigued with the business potential of this idea, especially from the standpoint of one-way rentals.» The Shoens reasoned that many other families had a need similar to theirs: the short-term availability of a trailer that could be rented «here» and left «there.» No one, at that time, seemed ready or willing to serve that need.

I have been here many times. They have lots to work on but at the end of the day the manager, Daniel, tries his best to give all his customers a smooth service. Many things go unplanned. Mistakes happen. But the way he dealt with them is what makes him a great employee and what makes me want to come back to this location.

Cc corporate uhaul!! I reserved a 26' truck for Saturday the 20th. On Friday night the 19th I get a phone call saying they can not give me the truck I reserved weeks ago. My only option was a smaller truck in Fresno I was forced to drive to Fresno pick up a 22' Friday night, drive it back to San Jose that night. Then Saturday move what in souls fit in the truck, which was not my full house! Uhaul did reduce the rate but with gas back and forth it ended up costing the same and I don't have my house fully moved!. I still need to move a truck load and no truck, they did not offer to help nor return my $. Why do u reserve a truck and take the reservation but not hold the reservation? This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional

While there isn't much to say about any U-Haul location unless you have a crazy negative story, I'll try to run through the basics to show that this was a satisfactory location to use.The guys behind the counter are very friendly and helpful. The amount of trucks and vans available seem to be consistently plentiful. The stock of items inside this U-Haul location look to be kept up well, and you can find all the materials you'd typically need (tape, bubble wrap, mattress bags, tons of boxes in multiple sizes, markers, etc.) Claiming a reserved van and returning it on the same day was painless and easy. If we need U-Haul locally again, we'll return to this location.

These guys are great! I rent here all the time. There was an evening where traffic prevented me from reaching the site before they closed. The guys waited for me so that I could get my truck. You can't get better customer service than that!
