Michael and Paulette are fantastic and they worked very hard to make my move from San Jose to Amador County as easy as possible. Nothing was broken - the main criterion of success! - except one bottle of Martinelli's Apple Cider, which I don't care for anyway. Everyone was friendly and patient. The final price was very fair. I would absolutely recommend them for local small moves (as per their name!). But...this move was waaaay beyond their comfort level. They should have turned down the job. Despite the fact that Michael came by to estimate the move, and knew that three appliances would also be going, he dramatically underestimated the scope of the job. Also they don't have an 18-wheeler or whatever that large moving truck is. If they're serious about building the business they should buy or at least get access to one. They had to use two trucks, one of which had some other business's name on it, and do a lot of extra schlepping between their Sunnyvale location and my south San Jose house. In their defense, I did my own packing, except for lamps and art. So the boxes were lots of sizes and shapes. But I've done that before and never heard about it. Re the art, I've moved more times than I'd like to count, and other movers have used specially made boxes for art, which they unpacked immediately and then took the boxes away. Michael and Paulette set up my catering table and cut up big Home Depot boxes in which to pack it. The art made the trip ok. But it just seemed kinda, dare I say...unprofessional?This move happened five months ago. Maybe things are different now. I hope so. These are really nice people trying their damndest to do a great job. But unless the issues I mentioned have been resolved, I wouldn't recommend them for a bigger move or a distance move.

My wife and I give the "crew" (Everett, Adrian, Brandon & Francis) 5-stars ... THEY are absolutely the BEST movers we'd ever experienced. We had spent 3 months packing up all of our belongings to move from Cupertino to Folsom. Our realtor recommended Acme and we called and had Michael come out for an estimate. Our initial bid was @$2000 which really sounded too good to be true, but we contracted with Acme to do the job. About a week or 10 days out for the move, I attempted numerous times to email, phone and text Michael to either stop by or call. We needed a lot of wardrobes, and to give Michael credit, he DID stop by and provided at least 15 of them for our use to facilitate the move. A day before our move, he calls and says there was a "calculation" error and he would send a new invoice. The morning of our move the price had jumped $500!! We had no choice but to accept it and it certainly looked like he'd underbid simply to get the job. We had never heard of an "85 box" limit, but heard about it the day of our move. The contract was for 4 guys at $170/hr, but on moving day only got 3. We got an "added" charge of $55/hr for the 4th guy on the 2nd day, and Michael tried to get $180/hr when it was quoted at $170. The contract provided for 14 hrs, but failed to "include" the six hours of travel time (although we were informed about a $285 fuel surcharge & agreed to it). We thought our bill would be $2500 for the move, $285 for fuel and another $275 for the "4th guy" we supposedly had been included in our original sales pitch. That adds up to $3060. When the crew was done unloading, Michael called in the "new" bill of over $4300 and expected us to pay it!  We offered the $3000, and Michael said "ok would $3400 make you happy?" Uh, NO, it doesn't! Acme Small Movers (aka Michael) needs to provide a more consistent estimate.. he's been in this business a LONG time, AND (if he wanted) he could provide a more accurate estimate so people (i.e. customers) like us wouldn't feel raped!! He "lowballs" his estimates to sound so reasonable to get the business, and then does the "I gotcha" game of charging for this and for that until your bill is doubled. He estimated 14 hrs and KNEW we were moving to Folsom (3 hrs drive each way - 6 hrs total). Why not just SAY "ok the loading and unloading is 14 hrs with 6 hrs travel time". So, THIS way customers can do the math (20 hrs x $170/hr). Let me finish off by saying the ONLY reason Acme Small Movers got 5 stars from us were the guys -- they were absolutely phenomenal. We just wish their boss didn't come off like such a schister. For him, I wouldn't even give ONE star. Never again.

I did not actually use Acme movers, because I needed storage as well as moving (it's complicated). But I was so impressed with Michael that I would definitely have used them if not for my odd requirements. There quote was a little under other companies' too. When I told him I wouldn't be using them after all, he was so kind and professional, and still offered me some house hunting help and advice, I was just floored. I really like them. Recommended!

My move was super-simple -- the Canadian insisted on moving the smaller items himself, so Acme only moved appliances and furniture for us -- but the experience with Acme was great. The guys were on time, professional, pleasant, and very careful with our things. The front office folks were good communicators. At times in the past with other moving companies I've felt like the guys who showed up were trying to hustle me for additional money; there was none of that with these guys.

They packed (expertly) and moved me without a hitch. I didn't cry.  I didn't shout.  I didn't panic.  I didn't lose anything.  I handed them keys and they moved me at a very reasonable price.  Sorry I'm not writing a long review, but when things go so right, there's not much to say.  Really a top notch group of people.
