Delancey Street Foundation Movers

This is my company

We are a community where people with nowhere to turn, turn their lives around. Delancey Street is the country's leading residential self-help organization for former substance abusers, ex-convicts, homeless and others who have hit bottom. Started in 1971 with 4 people in a San Francisco apartment, Delancey Street has served many thousands of residents, in 5 locations throughout the United States. Residents at Delancey Street range from teenagers to senior citizens, and include men and women and all races and ethnicities.

The average resident has been a hard-core drug and alcohol abuser, has been in prison, is unskilled, functionally illiterate, and has a personal history of violence and generations of poverty. The minimum stay at Delancey Street is 2 years while the average resident remains for almost 4 years – drug, alcohol and crime-free. During their time at Delancey Street, residents receive a high school equivalency degree (GED) and are trained in 3 different marketable skills.

Beyond academic and vocational training, residents learn important values, and the social and interpersonal skills that allow them to live successfully in the mainstream of society. Any act of violence, or threat of violence, is cause for immediate removal from Delancey Street. Interestingly, former gang members, who have sworn to kill each other, live and work together peacefully starting in dorm-rooms and moving up into their own apartments. Residents learn to work together promoting non-violence through a principle called “each-one-teach-one” where each new resident is responsible for helping guide the next arrival.

These guys were the most recommended when I reached out to my network of friends to find someone to help us move. Holy balls. They are fantastic! Not only are they reasonable, they are. the prices are spectacular. And not only are they fast. Oh man, are they fast. These are also the nicest, kindest, funniest, genuine people I have ever had the pleasure to work with, let alone meet. You read their the company's history and then you meet the guys and...well, it's all so wonderful. I love these guys. I don't just wanna hire them to move us again (but not really since I never want to move again) but, I just want them to come over for dinner. You should not look anywhere else but Delancey Street. You will do yourself a disservice if you do.

I used these guys for our pack and move 5 years ago... and continue to rave about them to friends who are planning moves.. Just went to their yelp page to forward it to a friend as we had such an incredibly positive experience with the team. They were so hardworking and professional! They really made our move almost stress-free!

I used Delancey Street Foundation Movers a few years ago and had a great experience.  I like the  Foundation's premise of transforming peoples' lives.  However, I expect the same high quality moving experience from Delancey Street as I would from another moving company.  My most recent moving experience with Delancey Street Foundation Movers was a disaster.  The movers assigned to my job were kind and willing workers.  However, I think the training they received was a bit incomplete as the damage I sustained appeared to be caused mostly by lack of knowledge rather than by lack of care.  For example, glittered Styrofoam fruit was heavily wrapped and carefully packed though it was neither fragile nor of great value.  A brand new set of expensive pots and pans was put in a box with no wrapping causing the new set to be permanently scratched and dented.  Dealing with the finance department after the move is when the real trouble began.  Instead of responding to my questions with copies of printed paperwork showing the answers to my questions such as "when is the insurance filing deadline?"  I received impatient verbal answers which turned out to be inaccurate, intimidating me from insisting on receiving copies of paperwork in writing and ultimately causing me to lose out on my insurance claim.  The finance department people also seemed to me to be in need of more training. No one of authority would talk to me.  Certified letters from me and then from a law firm I engaged went unanswered by the foundation President, Mimi Silbert. I would think that an organization with lofty human improvement goals would want to hear constructive complaints from customers in order to improve the training of their people, to improve the quality of their service, and to show donors a stellar track record when seeking donations.  Based on my personal experience, none of this seems to be the case.

We just used Delancey Street Movers to move our offices..... AMAZING!!! They were on-time, clean, professional.  The ENTIRE day, throughout this massive move, these 8 guys were courteous, funny, happy, motivated, determined, careful, respectful..... they never stopped.  Watching the way they worked as a team and interacted with us as the clients was beyond impressive.  They didn't stop moving! I didn't sit down the entire time they were there simply because their energy was keeping me going!  Now have a moving company for every project.  One word.... inspirational.  Keep up the hard work guys!  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have to add to the large chorus of Delancey Street Movers fans!My family (immediate and extended) has used Delancey Street Movers countless times for a decade.  Each time, Delancey Street leaves us amazed at how easy they make the move.  They are quick, professional, funny, and highly skilled. As others have noted, the movers will not accept tips...but they will professionally suggest that whatever you were planning to tip be given as a donation to the Delancey Street Foundation.  Let me tell you:  I have gladly given many donations to the foundation!  It is a fantastic organization, by the way, with a proven track record of helping people who have struggled in the past turn their lives around.Do not hesitate to use Delancey Street Movers.  They are the very best movers in all of Los Angeles!
