Delancey Street Foundation Movers

This is my company

We are a community where people with nowhere to turn, turn their lives around. Delancey Street is the country's leading residential self-help organization for former substance abusers, ex-convicts, homeless and others who have hit bottom. Started in 1971 with 4 people in a San Francisco apartment, Delancey Street has served many thousands of residents, in 5 locations throughout the United States. Residents at Delancey Street range from teenagers to senior citizens, and include men and women and all races and ethnicities.

The average resident has been a hard-core drug and alcohol abuser, has been in prison, is unskilled, functionally illiterate, and has a personal history of violence and generations of poverty. The minimum stay at Delancey Street is 2 years while the average resident remains for almost 4 years – drug, alcohol and crime-free. During their time at Delancey Street, residents receive a high school equivalency degree (GED) and are trained in 3 different marketable skills.

Beyond academic and vocational training, residents learn important values, and the social and interpersonal skills that allow them to live successfully in the mainstream of society. Any act of violence, or threat of violence, is cause for immediate removal from Delancey Street. Interestingly, former gang members, who have sworn to kill each other, live and work together peacefully starting in dorm-rooms and moving up into their own apartments. Residents learn to work together promoting non-violence through a principle called “each-one-teach-one” where each new resident is responsible for helping guide the next arrival.

I do not understand the good reviews. This was the worst move ever.First the moving crew was in hysteria mode trying to get all our things out within 2 hours (more than 70 boxes plus furniture of a fully furnished house). After I asked for somewhat of a slow down, it took them so long that the moving day lasted 12 hours. Second, they dumped everything without ANY organization in our garage, so that we could not reach anything and had to clean it for 2 days to have it somewhat organized.Third, we had so many things broken like never before, and no, not only Ikea furniture, but well-build pieces. A new desk broke in half, a chair leg completely broken off, lamps broken, and more. They stated they would contact us about the broken chair to have it repaired, but never did.All in all this is a completely unprofessional and incompetent way to go. The good reviews are probably heartfelt reviews, but the reality is different. Do not hire them if you want your things to survive and your nerves to last throughout the move. Awful.

Delancey Street Foundation Movers are just the best ever!  I think they're better than any other moving company I've used and I move a lot! Jonathan and his team were professional, FAST, and the nicest group of guys ever! I can't say enough good things and I'm a tough critic. Thanks again for a great move!

A BIG thank you Delancy Street's D'Andre C. and Matthew R. for all their help today-- which also happened to be a record-breaking HOT day in LA!  These guys schlepped furniture and boxes up and down from my second floor to my basement over, and over, and over again and helped me get things organized and stored properly-- all with a smile and a great attitude.I've used Delancy Street Movers several times over the years, both when I've moved houses and when I've need boxes, furniture and rugs moved around my house during construction.  They are hands down THE BEST!  I've always been happy.I highly recommend Delancy Street Movers!

I used them for one move and it was excellent.  Then we used them for a second move and it was an absolute disaster.  They broke almost everything.  I see dents, scratches, and damages on my fine furnitures that cost over 15,000.  I'm so distraught over it.

Extremely courteous and fast moving service--what's more, the final price was well under budget for my two-bedroom move ($1050 instead of $1500). The guys kept commenting on how little stuff I owned--which I took to mean that I'm a good minimalist! I guess it also means that I'm a bad capitalist.I had Delancey do my packing--materials and labor came to about $300 (included in the overall charge of $1050). Worth every penny and more. Also, these guys don't take tips--instead you offer a donation to their foundation. A very worthy cause and something we need more of in LA!
