This is a group of individuals who pick up all of your possessions from your home and carelessly ruin and lose half of them.  My experience with them was stressful and disappointing from beginning to end.  Please do not trust your move with them.  If anyone needs painful details, message me, but for those who just need the cliff notes: my move with them has been a disaster and with huge financial and personal loss. I just hope my post will detour someone else from experiencing what I did.

Sent an e-mail yesterday to the e-mail on their website, bounced back as invalid. Have left five voice mails per day, no response. Trying to get a refund is not easy. There is a number to call on their website if you need help with a claim but it is the 5 Star number that you never get a return call from.

Had we known that Allied Moving Group of Coral Springs (DOT 2944134, MC 996253), was a broker with NO connections to Allied Van Lines who, for a $569 down payment, would entrust all of the possessions of a young couple to a company like 5 Star Relocation of Van Nuys, CA (DOT 288130, MC 967231), we would have cancelled the move on the spot.5 Star ransomed our shipment for an increase in the fare and offered us $500 that they would supposedly give us back later if we wrote a review on Yelp. Yelp's one stars reviews are the ones that represent the 5 Star Relocation we got. After pick up they claimed our shipment weighed 3600 lbs. and 560 cubic feet not under 2000 lbs. and 300 cubic feet. (In fact, it was 1211 lbs. and 260 cubic feet!) I asked for a reweigh at destination. Mike from 5 Star told me that I would pay the extra money ($900 plus) on delivery if I wanted to see the goods again. They didn't live up to their promises, answer their phones, meet their delivery dates, and wouldn't tell us where the goods were. One of us went to their San Diego "address" and was a rent-a-PO box place and were told they haven't paid their rent in three months and rarely pick up their mail. On the website Spokeo we looked up all their phone numbers. One had an address that was a Persian Restaurant in Van Nuys. The other cell phones were reportedly registered to a variety of people, with names we had never heard of as opposed to a company name or anyone we had been dealing with. We came to distrust everyone we spoke to at the company, Michelle, Mary, Mike Fox, Jason Scott, and Karen after too many unfulfilled promises. We could almost hear the laughing as they told one fantastic story after another, "Michelle is in the Emergency room" Is Karen there? we asked. "Karen's in the Emergency room too."  From Mary, "I haven't heard of your shipment and I see no evidence that we have it." Days later, is Mary there? "She's having open heart surgery" Later, "Her mother is having open heart surgery," "We have the truck, it's going out tomorrow." Next day, "I don't know anything about a truck." Two months after we called for delivery we still didn't have the goods or any idea where they were but we did know:From the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration the Five Star Relocation is a part of VIP Investments in Van Nuys and it has one power unit, i.e one truck. It's a highly improbable to think a company with one truck could deliver a 1200 lb shipment to Boston from San Diego in a timely manner. What they appear do is pick up lots of shipments in the area and drop them in warehouse to be delivered out later, by what company we can only guess..or not at all. Read the reviews. See the pictures. Three of us researched, reviewed, filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, called lawyers, the Attorney General, the FMCSA and made a massive amount of phone calls to 5 Star Relocation daily. Eventually we got permission to pick up the goods at a privately owned warehouse with no connection to 5 Star in Northridge CA at 10121 Parthenia St., unit D-43, (818-349-3173). 5 Star had a big unit with many shipments in it and our driver was told, "We have shipments all over the place." And then explained that they are not very organized. We had another carrier pick up and deliver the shipment to Boston (actual weight 1211 lbs.! 260 Cubic feet). So our original binding estimate for a little over $1700 cost us over $5000.   $1569 for the 5 Star non-move, plus the truck and men to pick up our valuables at the warehouse, and the money to rebuy things they couldn't live with out for two months (a bed!). Plus the real move.We were told by a 5 Star Relocation representative that they are required to pay us $25 a day for every day past the delivery spread, in our case, $1025 but 5 Star is unreachable. Patty from Allied Moving Group told us weeks ago she would help us get the delay of delivery. We will report back.A few things you should know:Brokers are required to tell you they are brokers, but ask any company you are dealing with anyhow.Brokers and carriers are required to give you a book before your move about your rights and responsibilities. Read all the fine print on their website and your paperwork.Brokers are required to tell you the names of the carriers they use. Ask for their DOT and motor carrier numbers and do your research. Goggle them. How many power units? Have they ever done business under another name? Read ALL the reviews right down to the end.You should not have to pay for a move with a household goods carrier up frontYour carrier is required to do a complete inventory, listing and numbering every item and it'

If you want to see your stuff again, do NOT use this company. I am pretty sure they steal people's stuff and sell it as once you pack and load your stuff into their truck you will NEVER SEE IT AGAIN. My friend is currently having to hire an attorney to actually SUE these sick crazies! She has called them again and again and again all to have them flat out ignore her. She moved cross country weeks ago and literally never saw her stuff again. They also offer $500 off the move for good Yelp reviews. Whatever you do, do NOT use this company!

Not Good Movers. Any good reviews are because they make you do a Yelp review to get a $500 discount after they've scammed you into charges far and above quotes. The first thing I will say about this company is that, they will never call you themselves. When you do try to get in touch with them, it will take a number of times. We were in the dark about whether the pick up movers would actually show up and when we finally got confirmation from the office, the movers showed up 3 hours late, without 2 less movers than promised and without the advance notice we were promised. When the movers did show up, it was explained to us that the company who booked our move North American Relocation, LLC were brokers and that our estimate was not the least bit binding. Upon doing a walkthrough inventory, we were quoted a price over THREE TIMES the original "binding" quote. We were entirely unprepared for this and, out of genuine anxiety and panic, "brought them down" about $5,000, or $3,500.On a more positive note, the two movers that did show up worked extremely hard and were very congenial and thorough about their work. I have read stories about people who were confronted with the broker reality after there possessions were in the truck, effectively being held hostage. At the very least, these gentlemen were upfront with us and only our schedules were held hostage. NINE!! hours later, our stuff was packed in the truck, and we would not to see it again for 23 days...North American told me the delivery window was 7-10 days. 5 Star Relocation said 8-12 days. The contract said they had up to 21 days, so that is what I figured it would be in reality. However, I did not expect our stuff to show up a week after the company started telling us it should be to us "tomorrow" and I did not expect our stuff to show up heavily water-damagedwith mold growing on parts of our furniture. The delivery showed up on the 23rd day, and once again the movers themselves were fantastic guys, more than helpful, encouraging us and helping to document the extent of the damage. We had to get rid of hundreds of dollars of carpets, our relatively new couch and mattress were each half soaked. The extent of our damage can be seen in the attached pictures, boxes received coming apart because of moisture, one rug had been soaked and then frozen throughand would not unroll for over two weeks after delivery. Our guess is that, because of mold growth and the inability to pin down a delivery date was most likely due to half our household items being soaked and then left to dry as much as possible before they had to be delivered, at the latest moment possible.Though we are happy and well as a family (we have 2 children, 5 and 1) - if a great deal lighterin the wallet and bereft of some possessions because of this experience - this was a verystressful move and we hope that by writing and posting this, there will be a little moreinformation for future movers to not be scammed and mistreated.
