This was the local company that assisted with moving in at my destination.  They are affiliated with United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit.  I'm not sure who was responsible for the actual cross-country move, but one of their agents was the point person to help us arrange it, got our stuff off the truck in Houston, check the delivery, then loaded it to a smaller truck, delivered it, and assembled the big furniture.  The movers were polite and worked hard.  They laid down thick padding blankets on our door and floors so as to keep things as clean as possible.  Their boss showed up at the beginning to say hello and check in.  They delivered a small end table that wasn't ours that I returned.  The only bad parts were a lamp got broken during the move and they were missing one item - a loose assortment of flattened boxes.  We had compiled them in our move preparation and were going to give the unused ones to friends who were moving at our destination.  Luckily, it was fairly painless to submit a claim and receive a fair reimbursement.

You would think that w/the owner being a woman that she would have some understanding toward a female client but that does not seem to be the case here.I would put a ZERO if I could for this company & I wish to let you know that I have moved several times over the years using various moving companies & this has been the worse- they have the lowest standards & practices of any moving company I have ever used. There 3rd party contractor was also not good- Armstrong Transportation Services who EAST END chose, not me.I will give details of the incidences in the order they occurred:1) I was supposed to move overseas but their estimator increased the estimate by 100% and then told me after the fact that they would not take a credit card for an overseas move. They charged me an horrendous amount for packing & would not release my stuff to a new carrier until I paid. In Texas if you do not pay they can advertise in the paper for you to claim your stuff w/out you knowing, then a week later auction it off- the law protects the companies, not the consumer. They had my stuff and never gave me the final estimate until over a week after I already left the country then it was too late. I trusted them in the beginning but not after the packers removed my goods. The packers did not even bring enough boxes to the site so left my stuff that was already in boxes in those boxes & there were over 12 large ones.2) They took my stuff and stored it in crates and there was no temperature control from summer heat- wood items became brittle and white/light clothing items became discolored due to how they were stored and they were stored for 6 months since I was in dispute over the charges.3) I suspected from the way that the packers acted that things might not be safe. After 6 months in dispute and finally having to fly back to the US and go to Texas to get my stuff myself (tell you more later) things were damaged and missing & were only stored at their contractor's site- I had better luck moving my stuff overseas than having them store things. I have dishes missing, expensive fashion accessories and also even metal hangers, and 2 pairs of nickers, etc... I have an antique mirror cracked, a costly wooden statue that is broken, dented wood items, scratched picture frames, etc... Another moving company broke 2 things of mine but that was it- nothing has EVER gone missing... another moving company lost a box with my wedding dress in it but they found it after I called the police.... nothing else has ever happened!4) I tried to get a new carrier to take over who gave me a very reasonable price but East End or their contractor wished to charge me transferring fees to have the new carrier take over. When I flew to Texas to get my stuff and they were still mucking me about, I had to rent a UHaul to transfer my goods & then they decided not to charge me because I threatened them w/a lawsuit the day before. I also stated I would call the police if boxes were not there.5) I drove across country and had to lose unpaid time off work, had to sleep in the truck to save on costs & this entire ordeal cost me well over $3,500 for nothing- it has been one headache after another dealing w/EAST END. I also had to unload down steep stairs & could have got another carrier to do this for me if transfer fees were not charged. I was exhausted and strung out for a few days & do not recommend anyone having to go through this. I ADVISE you to use CROWN or Sirvas- they are the best in the country & though their prices seem initially high they do not increase them as this company & their contractor does. They will initially give you a cheaper rate & then increase once they get your stuff. If you have a company paying they will not dispute charges & that is why this company gets away w/what it does because companies pay good money & do not dispute charges- nobody has the time especially in a crashing economy. If you are paying out of your own pocket as I, do not use this company or any small company- I recommend Sirvas or Crown carriers. Also their sales agent Tom Poehling is no bueno. I recommend you do not deal with him- he has manners & will talk you into using them as your mover but he is ruthless. I am surprised a company would have someone like this working for them. He poorly managed my case & spread information that I complained about the packing to the subcontractor Armstrong. He actually made matters even worse which is probably why my items went missing & got damaged while under Armstrong's care. The owner April Surrat allowed it and probably will continue to do so for mucho dinero. This company is inhumane & has little care of what they put you through. I'm waiting for their response for my missing items & damages and ready to make a police report as well as sue them if necessary. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company & how they have an A+ rating the the Houston Better Business Bureau must be only d/t paying their membership fees.

What a great experience! The movers worked very hard, even in rainy weather, to get the job done. I was very pleased with their thoughtfulness to keep everything clean and dry and the hardwood floor padded. I would recommend them for any move.
