History

Established in 1964. Walsh Moving & Storage is a full service moving company that has been family owned and operated out of the same building in Torrance since 1964. Dick & Patricia Walsh started Walsh Moving with one truck and a small crew in 1964. Since then, Walsh has been serving Torrance and the surrounding cities. Dick & Patricia Walsh and sons operated Walsh Moving until they retired in 1996, passing the company to her nephews Thomas & Harry. Pat continued to help in the office with the bookkeeping. Thomas & Harry exceeded Pat's expectations continuing the Walsh name. Walsh Moving dramatically expanded the company by expanding local operations and adding Long Distance moving, then in 1998, purchased a warehouse in Long Beach and began serving the  cities of Long Beach and the surrounding area. Once she was satisfied Walsh was in good hands, Pat retired.

Competitively priced; detailed and accurate estimate; professional and efficientI'm on a tight budget so it was important to get an estimate that was as accurate as possible.  Of course, it was also important to have quality movers. I reviewed multiple companies online and narrowed it down to 4. Walsh Moving was definitely the most thorough over the phone. The other companies just wanted to know how many rooms were in the house and provided the rate per hour, but didn't want to take the time to hear what furniture, appliances or anything else I needed moved. I was left trying to estimate how long I thought it would take them to move our things (I do not have the right experience or knowledge to do this). Thomas at Walsh Moving took a detailed account of what I needed moved and explained their pricing and estimate well.  He emailed me the estimate so we could each have a record of all the details.A day before the move, someone called me to confirm the appointment and move details. I appreciated this, as I was planning to call them later that day to do the same thing. On the day of the move, James, Larry and Frank showed up on time. This was one more person than I was expecting and I asked how this would affect the price. James explained that although it would be more money per hour, it should take less time and the cost should even out or even be less in the long run. I understood but had a sneaking suspicion it could end up costing more if they dilly-dallied or if things just didn't go smooth. To the contrary, these guys really hustled! They were extremely efficient and got the job done right. They helped bring a couch over to my neighbors place, bring some items to the curb and took good care of all of our things. The final cost was $165 less than the estimate!Tips for your move if you are on a budget: 1) The more precise you are on your inventory the more accurate your estimate will be. 2) Pack everything possible in boxes.3) Label the boxes clearly with what room you wan them to go to in your new home.

These movers are great!  You have to get pass the smack talking that goes on between them...its just part of the process!  We had 6 movers, and each of them worked VERY hard.  The fragile items were WELL packed, they assembled our furniture upon arrival, and they loaded and unloaded a full house PLUS dropped some unneeded furniture to a consignment shop along the way which was such a HUGE help! The drive time was about 1 hour long.   Prior to the move, a young gentleman came over to give us an estimate- and when the final bill came after the move, it was $300 LESS than the estimate!  Lucky us.  I thought the guys handled our belongings with care - but minus a star - because I found that  my daughter's slide was broken (it's plastic, Step 2 brand).  She's outgrown it, but still.  These movers were great, personable, and hard working.  Thanks, men!!!

Walsh moving and storage moved us on April 19th 2016. The quote Chris gave us was for $1387. We had 2 trucks and 4 guys move us 6 miles away. We had gotten rid of our frig and several other things that were on the original quote. When the guys were finished, they gave me a invoice for $1618. My wife and I left to our new place when they finished loading the truck and took  us 8 mins. We waited 45 mins for the truck to get to the new place. They told Tomas and Chris that they got here in 15 mins. Loading and unloading times as well as drive times were all juiced higher then they should be. Should have never given each of the 4 guys $30 for what they did. Big mistake on my part. Was going to use them again when we decide where to move after our lease is up but that's not going to happen. Didn't like given them 1 star but I had no choice.I guess the bottom line is you can burn me once, but you can take it to the bank you won't burn me twice. I'm finish....

You can call this a mixed review and please if you think after reading this my rating was unfair please do not hesitate to reach out to me or use your own judgement but please read the entire review and know that this I am being as honest as possible. First, let me clarify that this is my review of this company on a long distance or a cross country move. They may be better suited for local if other reviews are any indication. I chose this firm out of 3 because of the reviews. So here goes...I called 3 companies two national and Walsh. I should also point out that this is our 4th major distance move of 100 miles or more so we have a pretty solid understanding of what to expect. I spoke with Chris Walsh and outlined my circumstances which included a short window to get estimates and a 3 week opening in which to move our household from Dana Point, California to Reston, VA. He indicated to me that it would not be possible to send a representative out to do a physical quite but if we did a thorough inventory any quote issued should be relatively close to what the final charges would be. My wife and I went through our townhouse and inventoried every single piece of furniture, I asked Chris  about the number of boxes and how many are typically used as that was really the only variable. We have a relatively small amount of items compared to past moves. The quote from Chris was around $4200, compared to other companies, some of which did physical inventory and some that did not it was in the middle of the road (low $3452 high $4756) I like Chris, he was thorough, courteous and professional. During the call he was helpful and quite friendly- the way he handled things and the reviews were the primary reasons I chose Walsh. We set up an appointment for the moving crew to pick up and we were all set, as mentioned earlier this move had a pretty tight timeline- manageable but still tight. Part of the timeline was getting the house packed up and having the housekeeping crew go through the condo in advance of turning over the keys and then my wife and I getting on the road east towards our new home. Chris and I set up a pick up time of 7:30 and estimated the time to pack etc to be around 5 hours. The initial issue was a new person calling me, the evening before to reschedule the crews arrival to 10:30 or later, pushing out the remaining parts of our plan and our other appointments. This call came nearly 3 weeks after the initial appointment was made. I pushed back and explained that we had many other appointments set up around the appointment they already set. This was my first lecture on how moving s not a perfect science from whom I later found out to be the actual owner, Tom Sapper. He proceeded to explain to me how moving worked and how flexibility was vital to account for the unexpected..talk about your foreshadowing. The crew showed up as originally scheduled and did an efficient job packing our things and getting the truck loaded. They did some unusual things like completely breaking down multi tier glass tables and packing them in picture boxes. We tipped the team well and they worked hard- we were back on schedule. My wife and I drove east and after a week were in temporary housing in Virginia, it was then when I found out that the predicted arrival time had changed (I was warned it might) and that the price had changed upward by just short of $1000. The reason given was there were a lot more items in the shipment than reflected on our original inventory. I questioned this as we were exceedingly thorough and our inventory originally included a large gas grill and 7 pieces of outdoor furniture which we sold prior to the move and the actual versus predicted inventory was not accurate. I called Chris and he told me that Tom handles all the cross country moves and he would get back with me. Tom and I emailed back and forth and I ket him know my concerns and he said the only thing we could do if I was disputing the amount is to physically weigh the truck, because of the large difference between the quote and the actual amount I insisted we go that route. In addition we had a conversation where Tim again, in a condescending fashion explained to me how moving charges were calculated and how we had more items than we said we would have, I mentioned the items we had on the inventory that we sold and it was like he didn't even hear me. It was like I needed a thorough explanation on how moving works ever time I question a change in terms from what was quoted and also how my not understanding how moves work should somehow impact my consideration of a higher bill even though we had fewer items than were originally quoted. In the end our items were picked up on June 20th and tentatively scheduled for delivery on July the 7th. The weighing of the truck apparently caused additional shipping delays and our items did not even leave California until the 5th of July. I felt like I was punished for asking questions.

Tom, Chris, Manny and James are awesome folks. On-time, fast and dependable.Setting up the move was easy. Chris and Tom was very accomodating to get a schedule in the morning, a day before the move. They showed up 10mins before plan. Manny and James were very friendly and quick on their feet. I will use them again if I move again.
