Sunshine Boys Moving & Storage

I don't necessarily ever give out negative reviews, so giving someone 3 stars is hard for me to do.  A co-worker of mine had suggested I use Sunshine Boys moving even though they were a little more expensive, she thought they seemed more professional and actually spoke English.  Never having hired a moving company before, I wanted to be extra careful with what I was getting myself into (I had read multiple reviews of many other companies that charged you more than you thought, or took forever, etc.).  After speaking with whom I think may be the owner, and setting it up, making it clear that I needed an afternoon move on July 2nd, I had asked for some type of contract so I can see pricing and policies.  Little did I know this was going to be a chore for the company and I sent multiple emails to see what was going on.  Finally after a week, I called again to have this conversation with him: "Owner: It concerns me that you are so interested in our contract.  You have told me you have seen positive reviews on the internet and from your co-worker, isn't that good enough.  It makes me not want to work with you and I am worried you will give us issues."  REALLY?? REALLY??  Having to ask a bunch of times for a contract didn't really bother me, but him saying that did.  SORRY FOR MAKING YOU STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO SEND ME A CONTRACT.  On top of that, the day before the move when he had said I would be getting a call to confirm the time, I never got one, and I called and emailed him the night before the move, for him to tell me they would be coming at 9am.  That got taken care of quickly though and the move itself went VERY VERY Well.  The 2 movers were very professional, and it actually came out to be less than I thought it would be.Overall, I would still recommend this service.  I got the feeling the owner was overwhelmed and very busy, but that still doesn't give him an excuse to say what he did to me.  I was disappointed with the before product, but very happy afterward.

I have now used Sunshine Boys for two moves and have no interest in trying any other company.  All of the initial contact is done with one person, Joe, who responds to emails, pleasantly and patiently answers all questions, and informs you of the companies procedures.  The day before the move, I received a confirmation call with request for start time and they were able to provide the 7:30 start time I requested.  The three movers who showed up could not have been more pleasant, careful, efficient, and respectful.  They understand how stressful moving can be and want to make things go as smoothly as possible.  The guys are always extremely grateful for any beverages (water and gatorade), snacks, and tip you are willing to provide.  We could not have asked for a better experience and have already begun giving referrals to friends and family.  The next time we move, we will definitely be using Sunshine Boys.

Just had a fantastic experience with Sunshine Boys yesterday.  We had a somewhat complicated move to do, relocating our personal possessions from our three story condo in MDR to a new home in Westchester and then also moving tons of artwork and about 30 HUGE lateral file cabinets (which were crazy heavy...these guys are supermen) from a storage warehouse to the condo in MDR immediately afterwards.  Joe was great at recommending how to tackle the project, and Titus (foreman), Jericho, Dennis, Conrad, Alex and Jermaine executed it beautifully and had great attitudes to boot, despite rainy conditions and backbreaking labor.  I truly cannot recommend them highly enough!

Overall, I would not recommend these movers to anybody!The problems started when they arrived at our apartment late. We were their second move of the day. I was a little worried when I booked them about being the second move of the day but the person I spoke to said they would be on time.The guys who showed up to our place were not gentle with any of our items! They would bang them around in our old place and more importantly they were scratching our newly painted walls of our new condo. This was out of line. We specifically told them to be careful, but they were not.All said they: broke one lamp, scratched our front door, dented our couch, ripped the paint off our dining table, and dented our wall.Please, save yourself a headache and find somebody else.

I would NOT recommend Sunshine Boys Moving to anyone.   An absolutely horrible experience with this company.  Our move was from Los Angeles to the Seattle area in early February 2011.Before I even booked with Sunshine Boys, I asked Sharon (Sunshine Boys Operations Coordinator) if they would subcontract out our job because I definitely did not want it subcontracted out.   Sharon said no - they would not do that.   Yet, that's exactly what they did after they had our items in their possession - subcontracted it out.    I told Sharon that our items were going into storage and asked what she recommends needs to be done differently for that (as opposed to going straight into a home).  She advised that we keep our furniture wrapped in blankets during storage.  She said her movers would pack our furniture in thick cloth blanket pads for the move but at the other end (storage facility) they would replace those cloth blankets for paper blanket pads at $3.00 each.  I said that would be great because the cloth blanket pads are much more expensive than $3.00 each.  So I called Sharon while our items were in transit to make sure they would have paper blanket pads to switch out at the receiving end.  She assured me that they would indeed have paper blanket pads at the receiving end.  Upon delivery of our items, the driver had no idea what I was talking about when I asked where the paper blanket pads were.  There were none.  In addition, I needed to know what kind of truck would be delivering our items so I could reserve the correct storage facility - some storage facilities cannot fit a semi-truck on their lot.  Sharon informed me it would be a 26' box truck and not a semi.  So I reserved a storage facility that was close to where we were staying and that could accommodate a 26' box truck but not a semi-truck.  While our items were in transit, we were called by the delivery driver to schedule a delivery time and learned that he was indeed driving a semi-truck.  Over the course of one week we were given roughly 10 different delivery timeframes.  The driver called to say he would be there Tuesday, Feb. 8th.  Then it was changed to Wednesday, Feb. 9th.  Then the driver moved it to Thursday, Feb. 10th.  Then on Thursday, Feb 10th, the driver called four separate times, giving us four different timeframes: first 1-4pm, then oddly it became 9am-1pm, then 2-4pm and finally 4-6pm.  Yet even with four different times, our belongings still did not show up that day.  Then we were assured it would be Friday, Feb. 11th.  Guess what?  Nope, no delivery on Friday, Feb. 11th.  So then we were told Saturday morning (Feb. 12th) at no later than 9:00am.  Our belongings did not arrive until after 1:00 pm on Saturday.  Finally, five of our boxes were smashed.  Even a box with "Fragile" labeled tape wrapped entirely around it arrived smashed.  My son's wooden toy car was broken (missing a wheel).   Who knows what else may be broken - we'll find out once we get it out of storage and unpack everything.Again, DO NOT use Sunshine Boys Moving.
