A & B Movers

I've moved so many times - and had so many ghastly experiences with movers - that I could literally write my own book of cautionary tales!Soooo....my experience with A & B wasn't the best; but it wasn't terrible, either. I had already packed and moved a bunch of my belongings; just needed assistance moving the heavier/bulkier items (appliances, sofa, shelving units, books) up to my new third-floor digs.First, the guys showed up on time.  They were a little goofy and a little careless, but they worked hard and very quickly to successfully transport the remainder of my possessions within the "two-hour" window I'd estimated.Except for a few (minor) scratches on the furniture - and the fact that they left a chunk of concrete they'd used to "chock" their wheels lying in the driveway (on both ends of the move!) - the move went smoothly.General comments:There is an hourly fee assessed, with a 2-hour minimum.If possible, choose the first time slot of the day: if the initial move of the day runs late, then everything after that will be off-schedule.SECURE YOUR VALUABLES. Even the most reputable companies wind up with an occasional shady character.  You have no way of knowing what - if any - background checks have been run on anyone you hire to do ANYTHING in your home.If practical, pack fragile items yourself.  And don't trust "the guys" to properly hook up your washing machine (this advice came from the agent with whom I booked the move).And finally: while I'm pretty certain I'd not hire A & B to move anything irreplaceable (and I definitely wouldn't choose them for major relocation), they did an "all right" and inexpensive job of getting my furniture from Point A , up-the-stairs, to Point B!

*** they closed down. I called to schedule a move and they seemed great but come the day of the move, I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone and after 5 hours of waiting. I have up and called another mover who informed me they closed a month ago and didn't pay their rent for the storage unit. I'm sorry for everyone who has their furniture locked up.

Absolutely the worst movers I've ever hired.  I've moved at least 10 times throughout my life and it usually takes a 2-man crew 3-4 hours to move me.  It took them close to 7 (take note-they charge by the hour).  I actually don't blame the guys who showed up to do the move, but the company itself.  They didn't provide them with a dolly and clearly didn't teach them the proper way to move boxes, appliances or furniture without causing damage.  I called the office to explain the situation and got no resolution.  Very poor customer service from the management!  My initial instinct was to turn them away when they showed up without proper equipment, but I had to move that day so I didn't see any other option but to proceed.  Moving is stressful enough as it is, so next time I will be more careful about the company I choose.

Updated Review 10/21/09: After almost two months of not hearing from A&B movers, I called to get a status check on my claim.  I was told that I'd receive a call back the next day.  Nothing. Again, I called back four days later in the morning.  I was instructed to call back after lunch that day. I did.  I was told that i'd receive a call back the same day because the man who assisted me was on the phone.  I waited an hour and called back. By this time, I'm starting to get irritated and lose my cool.  I finally received a call back at 6pm.  I was notified that my case had been reviewed.  I was offered a settlement of $200 no questions asked, nothing had to be weighed, yadda yadda.  Not the best or ideal situation, however, it was closure. I was told that the original movers were replaced due to my case. Not what I was going for and I'll never use these guys again.
