I used Rainbow movers under the new management with Larry after a neighbor recommended the company. The neighbor moved when it was Lenny the owner. I was nervous but everything came out fine. The estimate was a little bit high but the move was very complicated. It was a 3 story appartment with stairs, lots of books. The movers packed everything. I had prepared some parts of it like all the electronics and wiring were labeled. They were very careful and did a good job. Everything was going to a warehouse for few months and was brought back to the appartment to be unpacked by Rainbow movers, with asking to have the books in the same orders in bookshelves, everything unpacked and all boxes cleared. To my suprise, it was mainly the same crew. Always a good sign. They did an amazing job. The cost came under the estimate and the difference was honored without having to ask. The guys were all very polite and professional. There was a minor issue and the company took care of it. One thing to note is that the warehouse is not climate control. We had discussed this and put the art work and few items in a control storage. This was organized with Larry's help so I did not have to do anything extra. I had a discussion about tip prior to the move to put things clear. No one asked me for tip until everything was packed an in the truck. I had asked guidance ahead and to others and what was recommended was not a percentage but more a number per hour per man. It was not outrageous and they worked very hard and took really care of packing properly so I was happy to tip accordingly. The unpacking needed supervision. I had one person from my family with each guy to tell them were to place furnitures and items in closets and drawers. They were meticulous and always checking in case of doubt.I have read and hear so many horror stories about moving in NYC. This was a smooth process. Thank you to Rainbow Movers.

Larry and his staff were honest and incredible from day one through the final move in.  They lived by their flat rate estimate.  They cared for my $$$$ property as if it was their own.  My walls were untouched and my floors were treated like they were glass.  The movers (5) themselves are all good guys.  They worked well together and they worked in a team that was well organized and appeared to really like each other.  It was a pleasure to have them in my home for the move out and the move in after I re-floored my entire 2 bedroom condo. I cannot rave about them enough!

Larry helped us with our move from Queens to Brooklyn this past weekend. He and his team were incredible. We could not have don't it without them. Larry was nice, professional, and efficient. Great experience. I highly recommend Rainbow Movers.

I have many years of of experience with Rainbow Movers,  as a customer.  I wanted to respond to a negative review posted recently. Several times over the years Rainbow has moved me and my friends with excellent results. I believe the wealth of good reviews and very happy customers speaks for itself.Rainbow is currently under new management, but has experienced little change. The focus is always to do the best possible job even when it is tough on the men who are doing the work. The new owner is very hands on, does all the estimates and manages the day to day operations. The former owner was far less hands on, but the crew did a great job running the company for him. Two valued people left in the management change, one from the office, and one from the field, but otherwise, all the workers are still providing the same skills and experience that made Rainbow well known for a superlative moving experience for decades. In this media age, people post all sorts of things, and sometimes negative things are said because of misunderstanding, or lack of correct information. Often things are explained, and the customer indicates they understand the variables, but sometimes it turns out, they don't.Movers can insist on payment by cashier's check, or certified check, and even actual cash. At completion of the job. As a rule, tips, important to having a living wage for the crew, are cash. Once the job is finished, everything is safely in the customers dwelling, and the mover may never see the customer again. This customer paid at the end of the day with a credit card, and a $2000 dollar cashier's check. They are allowed to ask for tips civily. Especially after a very long, hot day. Many aspects can cause jobs to go over the estimate that customers don't realize:  disassembly/ reassembly of furniture can take a lot of time. Trucks aren't allowed on parkways, and often need to take different routes. Moving challenges also slow us down, e.g., narrow doors, long hallways, large homes, low clearance and tight turns on stairwells, etc..This customer was well packed, and moved from a large 3 story home with a tight steep stairway to a very large 2 story home with low clearance on the steps, making large pieces more difficult.  The move required two trips with the truck, needing a third of a truck load the second trip.  The customer was generous with water from the spigot in their refrigerator door. It was 98 degrees that day, (and well over 100 in the body of the truck). Without the water we would have passed out on their lawn. Not sure what other assistance meansAfter loading the truck for the first trip, a quick lunch break,  with actual sit down time of 20 minutes. It was 10 minutes out of the way, so a half an was deducted. Customer insisted we took an hour, so in the interest of good customer relations, 55 minutes was not charged for. A signed bill of lading with the customer's signature and initials confirms this. It clearly states that 55 minutes was taken off the billing time for lunch. The Job began at 7:00 AM; the truck got back to the warehouse at 9:15 PM.The Customer had received an email well in advance an approximate price quote from the former office manager, stating we would charge travel time from Brooklyn to Westfield, New Jersey, and back to Brooklyn.  They were moving 8 minutes away in NJ from their former home, but they were well over an hour from our warehouse. At the end of the job they said that they could have gotten a better price from a Jersey company. That might be true, but their previous excellent experience with us made them hire us again. Charges and expenses were emailed  to them well in advance, Tolls were not charged to the client, because they weren't included in the original guestimate. The prior owner would have charged for tape, the new owner is not charging for tape. Those two costs alone double the 3 percent over estimate that the customer is referring to, which was also told to them well in advance!Part of the problem is that these people don't know what a bad move is.  Nothing was broken, six items needed taking apart/reassembly, something many other moving companies charge extra for. Great attention to detail was given to setting up rooms exactly as the customer wished.  There was a tiny bit of damage to a wall unit the husband insisted we not take fully apart, which had to be carried up cellar stepsChoosing a moving company is a huge decision and  estimates are important. but  the mover's price is allowed to exceed the estimate by 25%, because of the hidden things that show up in a move. And, as I said to this rare unhappy customer, "Worse things can happen than that a job goes 10% over". When they called the office afterwards, they told the office manager that it was more stuff than originally discussed. Then they immediately backed off from the subject when addressed

This is an update to the review I posted in 2013 after using Rainbow Movers for the first time. Because of the outstanding service we used them again for another move in 2015, and now the 3rd time in 2016. To say that we are absolutely disappointed is an understatement. The company is now under new management , with long time owner Lenny gone, as well as Paul, a reliable, dependable and honest part of the company. This 3rd and FINAL time around, Rainbow Movers did everything that the BBB warns against : asked for cash up front to pay entire balance prior to even moving one box, and then if the estimate was over they would refund us the overage. Upon arrival the head supervisor Robert, asked if we had cash for tips. That was a HUGE turn off and not a good way to start the day. The job ended up take WAY longer than it should have, we supplied the workers with water all day and any assistance as needed. They took a 1 hour lunch break, which we ended up paying for. To make a long story short, the estimate was under, we owed more, and on top of that, Robert actually told us how much to tip. He said typically its 20% of the final bill and they all split it up. NO, that is not how it's done. I wish I had a picture of my husband's face when those words came out of Robert's mouth. It was a cross between " did this guy really say that, and dear God I hope my wife didn't catch that...". My husband spoke with the new owner who was rude, didn't listen to our concerns as a loyal customer and basically told us to pay the bill. The owner actually kept calling Robert throughout the day asking if I had paid in cash, and was I aware there was a 3% up charge on the balance due if we used cc. Prior to this I gave them $2000 cash as a " deposit".. Again another BBB no no, but I went along with the flow. BIG mistake. Whatever you do, NEVER USE this company. The icing on the cake ..our 2nd move done in 2015, with them packing our stuff then moving from BROOKLYN to NJ was almost the same than this 3rd (AND FINAL) move, and we packed all our own shit, and literally had a travel time of  8 minutes to our new home!!  The new owner is a thief and a shyster. I'm sure previous owner Lenny would be appalled that the company he grew, and made successful through years of blood, sweat and tears, and a repeat customer client list that he cultivated is being pissed down the drain.  ZERO STARS.. BYE BYE RAINBOW.
