MOVING CROSS COUNTRY NIGHTMARE NY to CA: I wish we could give less than a star. It all started off great with the original contact- Steve. Steve took his time and had me look up the other company we were interviewing and pointed out that they had 90 complaints in the last year, and they only had one. He told us we had to be careful and go with a legitimate company that does not Broker, or hire outside contractors. We decided to go with Absolute Relocation Services, signed the contract and paid the deposit. Our next contact, Derek, told us that we were really lucky to get the price we did because a cross country trip like this could have cost us 3x more. He then checked our inventory to see if it was the same as originally anticipated. He ended up upping the price, even though we had 2 less pieces of furniture but we ended up with 50 boxes. 38 of those boxes were categorized as Small. We had just gone out and gotten the cashier’s check he said was needed, and we had to go back to the bank and get the new amount. Derek said that our driver would be there on the 15th and we were given an arrival time of between 1-5 on our pick-up date (Friday, July 15th). I was called by the truck driver, Alex, at 2:30pm on Friday, the 15th, and told it wasn't convenient for him to come and he'd be there the next morning. I told him that that was unacceptable and I expected to see him by 5pm because we had to be out of the apartment by 7pm and we HAD to be out. He said he was in Pennsylvania and it was going to be hard to get there by 5pm, so I told him that he’d better start driving because we needed him there by 5pm. At 4:30pm I called and he said that he decided to come so he’d be there when he could get there. I asked for an ETA and he said, ‘ask traffic.’ At 7:50pm Alex and the young teen he had with (yes, just the two of them) arrived, came into the apartment, complimented us on having everything ready to go and asked why we packed, when we paid for them to do so... I told him that I was trying to make everything as painless as possible for all involved. We had everything wrapped, labeled and in the living room ready to be taken out. ALL they needed to do was take it down stairs (via elevator...which, there is an elevator fee BTW... There is also a long haul fee if it is more than 50' from the truck to the apartment). The driver had the kid loading everything and taking it downstairs where he left it unattended to come back and get more. My boyfriend was helping load and move stuff...he became the 3rd mover. Alex was going to charge us an additional $800 (to be paid right then) but he 'took off' $400 because my boyfriend helped and another $200 because of my packing job, so we ‘only had to pay $200 – but it needed to be in cash’ and he'd call it even. He told me that we were lucky that he came because he had had a stressful day dealing with his ex-wife and he had to go pick up his dog or she was going to take it to the pound, so he didn't feel like driving in NY traffic. But since I was pleading (I wasn't pleading, I was ANGRY), I convinced him to come; But that he really didn't have to be there on the pick-up day and that he didn't care if the company got mad at him because he worked for other companies too. So-so much for not Brokering or Contracting out work. We were supposed to be out by 7pm...we did not get in our vehicle to leave until 11pm that night. We still had 5 1/2 hours to drive to our first destination. We arrived at our hotel and our reservation had been cancelled. It’s was 3:44am.

We have been in CA since the 18th. We heard from Dispatch-Jasmine on July 22nd. She asked me how the experience was, so I relayed the entire nightmare. She apologized and said that she would make sure we received a discount for our final payment and that she would waive the long haul fee. I simply needed to provide here with the exact distance from the truck to the apartment. Again, we had already been charged the elevator use fee. She told me that she would be in contact with me again on Monday the 25th and I needed that number for her. We had it ready to go and she didn’t call. I called her direct number on the 27th, she answered and sounded very overwhelmed and said she was on another call and could she call me back later that day. I said sure, she said she had my number on caller ID and that she promised to call.
She didn’t call. I called her number today and it went directly to voice mail and it’s a personal number for someone name J St James. I called it again in case I punched in a wrong number. Same message. I tried the 800 number provided on her email and it’s been disconnected. I went back to the original number I used to contact Steve and someone answered and there was country music playing in the background, but no one talked or said anything. I hung up and tried again- same thing. I called the main 800 number on his email and someone answered, I said, Hi, is this Absolute Relocation Services? And he said, “It depends. Who’s asking?” I responded, “I’m a client whose entire shipment is missing.” He said, “oh, hang up and call back, I didn’t know if the call was for me or what, so I’ll let someone else answer it.” I said, “I called an 800 number…” he said, “Ya…there’s a bunch of us that answer, but I can’t help you.” I called back – this voice told me he couldn’t help me, I needed to call Dispatch, and he gave me Jasmine’s number. I told him that “her number was going to what sounded like a person’s person cell phone and that the 800 number was disconnected.” He said, “Yaaaa, the companies going through a new phone thing…”. Obviously I’ve gotten nowhere.

Jasmine said it could take 7-21 days. Items were picked up on July 15th. Today is August 5th. Today is the 21st day.

I got online and started hunting. Their North Carolina office is located in a Regus building. One can rent a Regus address and use it to register for business. When you call the 800 # related to the NC office, it tells you that the Google subscriber is not available. The Florida address, from Satellite pictures looks like a legitimate building. There is another number I will try tomorrow.

Everyone I initially dealt with was from Pennsylvania. Their phones numbers mimic the numbers from which you call, so it’s difficult to know where anyone actually is. I do know that they are all affiliated because they all go by the same DOT and MC #’s.

SCAMMER ALERT!!!! As the other customer stated, I too am a victim of this scammer. They offer you a binding quote, but after that, they become a thief. Communication is not existent. My pickup wasn't confirmed until the day before even though I told them I had to book a flight to in order to meet them on pick up day. 1st day of pick up= Late 7 hours. Picked up most furniture with no issues. 2nd day of pick up=8 hours late. Finished packing truck at 10pm, still needed another truck for rest of stuff but they had not planned on such and I had to fly back home. Before leaving on the second day, they told me my quote was changing from 29K to 43K due to the extra stuff that they say I must have added. I told them that they had quoted 323 items and had only packed 262 so obviously I didn't add anything extra. They refused to return to pick up the rest of my items unless I signed a new contract, immediately, which is illegal. Day of delivery was supposed to be 7/8/22. They contacted me and said that they can't make that delivery date. They don't know when the delivery will happen. Expect more charges due to truck not being able to get to my house even thought they don't know when the truck will arrive.... I will be taking legal action against this company. They report your volume as cubic feet estimates but then use wardrobe boxes that are not packed full to take up cubic feet space in the truck! RUN AWAY AND NEVER TALK TO THEM AGAIN....SCAMMER ALERT, SCAMMER ALERT!!!!

I moved with Absolute Relocation for good. The crew was incredibly punctual and committed with their job. They turned what could be a stressful move into a smooth and nice experience. Delivery time was even better than promised and that’s something I appreciate a lot. Thank you guys for making my life easier.
