Every piece of furniture I own means something to me. When I hired Midland van lines, I told them clearly about how most of my furniture was passed down the generations from our forefathers. My family takes a lot of pride in our family heirlooms and I expected nothing less than perfection from this moving company while moving my things. I can sum up the review just by saying that they delivered every piece of furniture in the exact condition they left my old house. But that wouldn’t be fair to this company. I have to write about how efficient their workers were. They worked so carefully and skillfully packing everything. They even wrapped the edges of every piece. I have to give these guys credits for their efficiency. They were quite fast at their job. All that efficiency comes at a very reasonable price which astonished me the most.
BEWARE! THEY ARE SCAMMERS! DON’T TRUST THEIR WEBSITE REVIEWS!
>>> This company apparently operates under Midland Van Lines, Planet Van Lines, Western Van Lines, and Swift Van Lines, and every single one of them have 1-star reviews when you start looking in the right places, stating the same situation that we had…all customers say they got scammed.
>>> My mom used this company to move to a different state. 1st, they screwed up her car delivery and they told us the driver canceled on us the DAY OF the car move, and then charged us $600 more in order to get the car out that same day! Apparently, they have pulled this ‘bait and switch’ with others by knowing your back is against the wall at the last minute. We finally went through another company to get the car transported, and they did everything smoothly, but we still had to pay the higher fee bc it was a last minute deal.
>>> Then the real scam happened. Midland Van Lines sent my mom an estimate of what it would cost, and after they had everything packed in the back of their van, that’s when all the hidden fees were revealed. We were flying out the next morning, so had no choice but to accept these hidden fees, which added $200 + upon arrival. Strike #1.
>>> When my mom originally booked Midland Van Lines to ship her household items, she told them her apartment in the new state wouldn't be ready until 1 1/2 months after her move date. They told her they would hold her things in storage for 30 days for FREE and then charge a small fee until her apartment became available. They said to simply call them 2 weeks prior to when we wanted the items to be shipped. 10 days later, I receive a call from the driver saying that her household items would be delivered the next day! What?! We never called them to tell them to ship the items! When I called the company to find out what happened, Dominique said I signed a contract stating that the delivery date was October 19. Lie #1. She said she had the contract in front of her and she was looking at the exact date- Oct. 19. Lie #2. Then she told me since I signed with that date on it, that my mom would now need to pay for her own storage unit and pay for new movers when her apartment was ready in Dec. When I asked to speak to her supervisor she told me she IS the supervisor. This is how they scam people into thinking they are getting 30 days free storage. I got off the phone and had my sister send me the contract that I "supposedly" signed with the Oct. 19 date on it. Shocker to find the delivery date BLANK! They said originally that it would be left blank since she would be storing items at their facility for a little over 30 days. Then, since they wouldn't answer the phone for me, I had my husband call. She told him the same thing, but when he said we have a copy in our hands and the delivery date is blank, she said she all of the sudden couldn't locate the contract and needed time to look into it. We never heard back from her and they are no longer answering their phones. Strike #2.
>>> Next, the driver, Adam, calls me and says, “if you can’t find a storage unit in the next 3 hours, I’m taking your mom’s items to New Jersey and dumping them.” What?! He also told me that it would be an extra fee if the storage unit couldn’t fit an 18 wheeler near our storage unit. When I said, she only has 1 room full of items, and it was packed into a small moving van, he said, “not my problem. I’m shipping multiple items from different people in an 18 wheeler, so either pay extra or you don’t get your stuff.” By this time, my mom, sister and I were all in tears trying to sort through all of this. Strike #3.
>>> We scrambled at the last minute and finally found a place. The next day the driver said he would only accept a postal money order, so my sister text him and said, I’m getting a postal # order for $2,2180 (remaining balance) and making it out to Midland Van Lines. He text back “ok”. When he arrived, he said that he worked for a different carrier and she would need to go back and get a postal $ order that had HIS company name on it. She had to drive to 2 different post offices to get that done. Strike #4.
>>> Then they said we owed an additional $200 b/c my mom’s apartment was more than 75 ft from where the van was unloading. Seriously? They said they would only accept cash, and when we said we weren’t comfortable paying in cash, the driver said, “I can’t work like this. I’m taking the rest of your mom’s items and driving to Vermont and dumping them there.” I told him I would call the police if he left with her items, which he simply replied, “Call them.” Strike #5.
>>> We finally got his boss to accept a payment from Venmo, and they came back and unloaded mom’s items. Later, we noticed an additional charge for a credit card processing fee of $218, and we NEVER used a credit card to pay! When I inquired, they said they would refund us, yet I haven’t heard back, they aren’t answering their phone, and shocker…. No refund. Strike #6.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND WALK AWAY FROM ANY OF THESE COMPANIES WITH THE NAMES I LISTED ABOVE! THEY ARE SCAMMERS AND MADE MY MOM’S MOVE A LIVING HELL!
BEWARE! Worst experience ever! I read these reviews and am shocked. My husband and I called this company to move from Chicago to Colorado. The sales person was so smooth, everything we were told was a complete and utter lie, I went through our entire home with the rep using our Zillow photos per her suggestion. We went through every piece of furniture, picture, items I wanted them to wrap and items I would have wrapped, boxed and ready. We went room by room! Then another sales rep took over. gave us our quote, we negotiated the rate. They have a warehouse by my daughters home in Colorado Springs were we wanted to drop off furniture to her. The rep said this would be an upcharge and counted as a second move. ?? He recommended that we rent a UHAUL and move our belonging the rest of the way ourselves. 5 1/2 hours further. He then proceeded to tell us everything was included in the price he gave us. I questioned the 7 step policy, wrapping our dishes professionally so they wouldn't break, the TV's and larger items I was unsure how to wrap. YES! All included! He then said I needed to sign the contract right away as this price was only good for a short time, and as I was trying to read the contract kept telling me the payment need to be made and that email was waiting. I needed to do the DocuSign and move on to the payment. The day of the move the head mover came in and within 30 seconds doubled our price, up charged for all the large items, charged extra for wrapping those items, refused to box and wrap the dishes, and then told my 1/2 of the furniture we discussed was not on the list he was given nor did they tell him it was 3 levels and tried to charge me for having more than 7 steps. He was rude, made me sign blank documents or threaten to leave, had me in tears and yelled at me while my husband was gone getting the CASH they demanded. YES CASH ONLY! They refused to take a credit card. None of this was disclosed. They said our boxes purchased at Walmart were not a typical size and they were too big, this would be an upcharge, We told him the sales person told us that is were we should get our boxes! We called customer service, spoke with Laura I believe, she forgot she placed me on hold and told the company manager I was a "Fing crazy Customer" and he shouldn't take a credit card from us! Umm HELLO, I can hear you! They sent in 2 people to move a 3 level home. They were 5 hours late, complained & whined the hole time and then finished after midnight, not before they got oil and grease all over the carpets, and left a mess in ever room. The carpets had just been cleaned. The walls are all marked up, and they left two holes in the wall while moving items up the steps. When they finally finished they came in and directly asked for a TIP! Seriously? After making me cry, yelling at us, threatening to leave multiple times, putting holes in the wall, damaging the carpet. Slamming the dolly down the steps so hard I questioned if they were going to fall through. OMG! I was promised my delivery during my original call on the following Thursday as I had to wait wit the Uhaul or it cost me if I am not ready to accept delivery. I point out this says up to 21 days, the rep said no worries we will have it there by Thursday. I told him my husband had to return to work was he sure, YES, YES! Day of move, they inform us it can be up to 30 days and we will get a 24 hour call. WE drive from Chicago to Colorado, we get the Uhaul - NO TRUCK! We finally get a TEXT the following Sunday that they will arrive Monday between 11-2PM and we need to have CASH only or they will not unload delivery our belongings. Well - they get there cash, I was told anything they take apart they will put back together , NOPE ! Our items came broken, 2 TV's were shattered, our antique table that has been in the family for more than 100 years the guys unloading the truck drops and breaks it, the truck is so crammed packed with items every which way that when they would take one item out several boxes or furniture would fall. The guy unloading was throwing and tossing boxes onto the ramp. The two men hired to help move us in could barely lift, my daughter and I were moving in boxes and lifting tables. I am still seething from entire situation, being extorted, lied to and they have the audacity to tell us "well moving is stressful" I see why! I am writing complaints to the FMCSA, Bureau of Public Transportation, Commerce Commission in every state we drove through, as well as BBB in every state. I mentioned this to the UHAUL centers as they refer moving companies and will be posting on social media. This should NOT happen to people. It is wrong! I hope I can help people when they read this. I never write reviews, but this was beyond awful! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! They dont even deserve 1 star!
Midland van lines moved our belongings two months ago. All I had to do was to call them and they took care of the rest. The men arrived exactly on time and they were all very professional. I instantly felt at ease seeing how professionally these guys managed to do everything, from packing to loading. Even the van they brought with them was spanking new. My belongings were delivered just in time as promised. Every piece of my valuables traveled so well and it was so relieving. I will definitely recommend them to everyone.
Midland van lines gave me a really good value for my money during my last move. They handled my move in such a professional manner. They arrived early, packed everything with great care and loaded all my belongings onto the vans with caution. I wasn’t sure if the truck was too small but they fit everything into it quite comfortably. The best part was that they charged me very reasonably. Their initial estimate wasn’t too high to begin with. The final bill came very close to it which really surprised me.
