123 Moving and Storage

The guys are 123 Moving and Storage are a class act.  I was in a big mess with a major emergency, and needed their service last-minute.  They came through in a really big way, coming up with ideas and resources that I hadn't considered, and saving my neck big time.  Special thanks to Jason and the warehouse staff on Main Street for being so helpful and friendly. Thanks guys, you really helped me out!

I want to make clear that this review is not for local move in Santa Monica or the greater LA area.  This review is for a move from LA to SF that included 2yrs of storage (so the gentleman who do the moves are probably different than the local movers).The good: The local LA movers came and very efficiently packed furniture that I needed stored and eventually shipped to SF.  The movers were very friendly and they did a wonderful job.The good: No hassle storage for 2yrs--very easy auto payments to my credit card at a very affordable rate--really, really great storage prices!The not so good:  When I called to let 123 know I wanted my stuff shipped to SF, I asked if they could give me a few choices for delivery (I wasn't in a rush to get my stuff but because of my job, I need to plan to take time off of work).  123 originally said that notice wasn't a problem but it ended up being 24hrs notice that I had to be home between certain hours--no discussion or options, I was simply told that if I wanted my stuff I had to be home at a specific time on a specific day.  Not the most convenient and not very friendly...but I can forgive that.The bad: According to my contract and what I was told by 123, delivery includes removing the items from their packaging (2 good reasons for this: 1) inspect your items to make sure they're not broken, and 2) they use a lot of packing materials to protect your belongings).  Well, when the movers arrived I asked them to "unpack" my furniture.  They said that's not their job.  I told them that 123 says that the movers "unpack" but they declined.  All the movers did was stack all of my wrapped up stuff in my garage (a 2 car garage, 1/2 full of stacked furniture and boxes in wrapping).  I called 123 and complained and they defended their movers and simply said that I used the wrong words--I should have asked the movers to "unwrap" not "unpack" because "unwrapping" means taking my furniture and belongings out of the wrapping while "unpacking" means arranging my furniture in my house for me.  This made me very angry to say the least--don't blame the customer for using the wrong words--blame the movers for not asking a simple clarifying question (seriously, the movers knew they were supposed to "unwrap" but they didn't want to spend the time).The bad:  Because the movers did not "unwrap" my furniture and belongings, it took me about 9months to be able to do it myself because of the amount of wrapping--had to arrange/hire a dumpster service ($$$) to pick up all of the wrapping because of the sheer quantity of plastic, wrapping, and boxes.  Also, 2 items were broken during the move (something that I could have discovered at the time of delivery if the movers had "unwrapped" my stuff) but since it's been more than 6mo after delivery I'm SOL. Conclusion to the story: 2 months after I had my stuff delivered and I was blamed for not using the proper word "unwrap", 123 tried charging my credit card again for storage fees.  They were actually quite apologetic about this and corrected their mistake immediately.  Nevertheless, accidentally sending me a bill after they just left my stuff in a big pile without "unwrapping" was basically salt to an open wound... I would definitely follow the positive reviews for all local moves, the local movers who packed my stuff and brought it to the 123 storage facility were great.  I would, however, caution on the out-of-town movers because it appears that they may try to take advantage of 123's customers.

Made my moving experience, which is horrible for me, incredibly easy. 123 did an incredible job, so professional ,efficient and reasonably priced.Will never use anyone else.

I wish to correct an error.  We used another moving company, which my prior review referred to.  I apparently assumed, incorrectly, since we used a moving company to last year, that the solicitation on YELP to review it was the one listed.  My apologies to 123 for the error.  My complaint was apparently about another company.

These guys were AMAZING. They packed and moved our large 2-bedroom in one day, starting early in the morning and finishing midafternoon. We have a LOT of stuff, and they boxed and moved it all. Best of all, they were incredibly polite, professional and efficient throughout.Some moving companies will quote a lower hourly cost up front, but they'll nickel and dime you to death with unexpected charges. These guys give you one all-inclusive hourly price that's straightforward. This is a welcome change from some shady moving companies who pull a bait-and-switch on pricing.Overall, these guys were amazing, I would use them again any time, and I will definitely be recommending them to all my friends and family.
