I'll lay down the pluses and minuses.  We are small business owners as well and I would ask to find out if there's anything I could do better or if it's good do more of.  I can't remember if your team came to our house or just had a phone conversation before the quote but we listed everything that we had and all the rooms that we had.Pros - * You have a great staff; the guys are hard-workers, fun to work with and in good spirits.* Everything got from point A to point B to point C.  A few things chipped but that's expected in two moves.* Y'all let us stow items in your truck overnight, because the storage was closed and we couldn't rent an additional space. (See Cons)Cons - * The initial estimate that we got for loading the trucks was 4-5 hours.  The guys spent I believe 9.5 hours loading and I worked with them all day.* The initial estimate that we got for unloading the trucks at our house was 4-5 hours, but was told it would be probably less because all our stuff would be just loaded from the storage area.  The guys spent I believe 10-11 hours unloading.* We told you guys that we could get a 10x30 storage place and also were going to get a 10x15 just in case we needed it.  Y'all said that would be plenty of room because you would pack tight.  The reason that we had to use your truck overnight was that we had to rent another 10x15 for the rest of the stuff.  * We paid with a credit card in my driveway on the foreman's phone (can't remember his name) on the night that we loaded.  I signed the transaction on his phone.  On the night that we unloaded, Cassius took my credit card number for processing later.  A few months later, we got a call from you guys saying that we didn't pay.  We actually couldn't find the transaction in our bank account so we sent a check for the full amount.  It just seemed a bit scary with all the credit cards that I had given.  Bottom line, we got our stuff from our old house to our new house.  We had good guys working with us.  The cost was double what we were anticipating from your initial quote.  Lesson learned, I'll add a Not To Exceed price next time for the full work in a contract next time.  We picked you because of the Valero/Small business connection and because your quoted price was less than the competitor.  Unfortunately in the end, the price we paid was more than the competitor.

I hired ABC Movers back in 2014. They showed up a bit late but worked hard throughout the day. We had 3 stops to make before getting to the new place and I only hired 2 movers. They were done in 8 hours with our help and I was impressed. I hired them again in December and it was an absolute disaster. I asked for 3 movers at 8AM. They showed up a half hour late minus 1 mover. As I was giving the tour, the lead guy wouldn't stop interrupting me. Over 2 1/2 hours late, the 3rd mover shows up and he's brought his wife (a packer). Even with 4 people, they moved slowly. I ask the lead mover about this, and he tells me the other 2 guys are new.When they finish loading, I instruct the movers to head to the new house with my boyfriend. I then get a call from the lead guy saying he's out buying food--but wants to know if I want anything. He didn't mention he was leaving to get lunch and left the new people to drive the truck. Shortly after, my boyfriend sends me pictures of a scratched-up driveway at the new house.I head to the new place and find out everybody has been on a lunch break... for well over an hour. I tell the lead guy (the manager) they're going to pay for the scratches and find out he didn't even know about them. The manager literally ARGUES that he didn't know about the scratches because he went to get food. I had labeled all of the boxes with the room they belong in, and asked the movers to put each box in the appropriate room. The new house was 2 stories so I expected this to take some time. What I didn't expect was the manager to keep taking calls in his truck for 15+ minutes at a time. My boyfriend and his dad are watching the movers slam around our [clearly marked] fragile items and put items in the wrong rooms. We bring this to the manager's attention, and he AGAIN argues with us for several minutes.After a terrible 10 hour day, we have to pay quite a hefty bill. They made small concessions for slowness at my demand. One of the crew comes back later that night because they forgot one of our items in the owner's truck. They come back again the next day for the same thing.I keep hearing from the manager (on that day) and some random person from ABC (via email, weeks later) that ABC will fix the driveway. I sent the quote for the repair of the driveway (I am renting so this was the owner's decision) to ABC and they never answered me. Luckily my landlord is great so he contacted them and dealt with it.I understand that sometimes things go wrong, but the behavior of the manager was ridiculous and unprofessional. They should also have a lower rate for when you get trainees--they are not as productive! Moving is stressful and ABC Movers certainly didn't do much to ease the transition.

I've used them a few times and they've showed up late and complained about stairs. It wasn't the most pleasant experience. There are other options out there.. Explore them.

Words of caution; get your estimate in writing to avoid disputes later down the road (pun intended)...Dealt with Don on my recent move from San Antonio to Austin area and was quoted $150/hr for a three man crew, $275 equipment/truck/gas, and a two hour flat rate ($300) for three hours of drive time (1.5 hours each way).  The movers themselves were decent; three 20-somethings with good attitudes, who were considerate of my floors and walls. Overall, a moderately good experience except for last minute dispute over negotiated rate on drive.
