Dependable Movers

My condo building in Dallas required one million dollar insurance for a moving company, so Dependable Movers were one of the few approved vendors. I used this company for both packing and moving everything into my U-Haul truck, and both teams did a great job overall in a very timely fashion. The 2 packers completed the job in 3.5 hours, and I had a 900 sq. ft. one bedroom, split level condo full of items to pack. The total was about $500 including tip. It was worth the labor, but the cost of the boxes seemed way too high. I had maybe 3 dozen boxes, and the cost for them was $118. I also got charged for their trip out (I assume gas), which was nominal, just unexpected as not part of the original $300 quote. The actual boxes were packed very efficiently though, and they even offered to pack some stuff in my own suitcases and bags to avoid using more boxes to save a few dollars. They also told me that leaving my clothes in dry clean bags for protection can actually make me sick because the chemicals from the bags get into clothes after time, so that was a nice tip!The movers included a group of 5 guys, which made the process very quick and efficient! They completed in 2 hours, and it was a lot of work to move everything out, down a long hallway, down an elevator of 16 floors, down another long hallway, and out to the U-Haul truck! They also packed my U-Haul so tightly that when I dropped off a lot of boxes at storage and took the rest of them to my new home, they didn't move an inch and stayed in place! These guys worked hard and did an excellent job. I paid $500 including a $100 tip ($20 for each guy).I was able to pay both teams on-site with credit card, so that helped. It's tough to find good people to handle your stuff, so I would definitely use this company again!

Stay away from this company.  I chose to use their services as the company was recommended by condo building management.  That was a huge mistake!  I have found since the move that they severely damaged several pieces of furniture when moving my belongings.They did not have the courtesy to bring this to my attention.  They damaged an entertainment center - and now, I can't open or close the door.  Tanya is very slow to respond to requests for bids on moves.  It's very difficult to get answers from their office.  And the final blow, they tried to overcharge me on state sales tax - and this amount was only corrected after I questioned the moving staff.  They were only concerned about moving my items quickly and getting their check.  NEVER AGAIN!

They moved us from a 4300 square foot home on two levels to a 2300 square foot home with no issue. 7 hours beginning to end (Houses were 5 miles apart.) They were exceptionally nice, capped a leaking faucet in the laundry room, changes an outdated dryer plug and were superb. Five men. I would use them again.

Called several companies to get assistance with packing up the house.  Dependable Packers sounded so friendly and helpful.  Received phone calls to confirm the number of people to come and assist.  Was quoted 8 hours for $250.00. Not bad. Three ladies arrived. They did pack well however, the math is off.  I was charged for 8 hours but they left after 21/2 hours. (A total of 7 1/2 man hours NOT 8!). Next I was charged with TWO trip charges to a total of almost $80. SERIOUSLY. nothing was mentioned about any trip charges. (The other vendors were up front with all charges). On top of that, the three ladies were car pooling. Since when do you pay to drive to your next appointment?  THEN I was asked to tip!!!!  So with all of their hidden charges, the $250 for 8 hours was $400 for 7 1/2 hours. So on Monday, I called to speak with the owner. Someone else, which was one of my packers, offered to help. When states I wanted to speak with the owner, I was told she had laryngitis.  No problem.  I will wait until she can speak for a return call. Over a month went by with no response. I called back. This time she called me within a day.  She had no explanation of the two trip charges.  She was going to pull my invoice and get back with me.  I guess my invoice is in Alaska or somewhere. STILL no return phone call. Buyer beware. They have MANY hidden charges.

I really wanted to like this company more, because they are a local family-owned business and also came highly recommended by a friend. We used both the Dependable Packers and Movers for our recent move, so I will comment on each service separately. Packers - did a pretty good job, I felt like they cut corners with some items. For example, electronics were not wrapped or packed separately; cords were not bundled up to avoid tangling. Items in drawers and desks were not packed up -- they told us furniture would be moved as-is until we pointed out that for some furniture, the items were not secure in drawers. They missed an entire cabinet of items that we ended up packing ourselves. I found this annoying, considering the fact that we paid close to $500 to pack a very modestly sized apartment. We were also not informed up front that packers would not pack refrigerator, freezer, or liquor items. This would be okay if we had just been informed along with the quote, but we ended up having to go back to pack and move these items ourselves after expecting that everything was included in the packing/moving services. We also incurred a box charge of $2-3 per box; I felt a little like they intentionally used smaller boxes to maximize the number of boxes they could charge for. Wish they just rolled the cost of this into the estimate; I hated the feeling of being nickeled and dimed.Movers - did an excellent job. They were careful with moving items to avoid damage. Helped assemble some furniture and install washer/dryer after move. Main issue again was nickel and diming with hidden charges, as another reviewer mentioned - things like extra fee for moving a large number of boxes (can't remember if it was for 20+ or 30+ boxes), $10 for a bike, etc. Random 10% fee added on without a line item notation, that we didn't realize we had payed until reviewing receipt again to figure out how we paid so much more than estimate (maybe a tip that was added in?? If so, I'd be upset we tipped on top of this amount). We ended up paying about $250-300 over the original estimate.Bottom line: Dependable Movers were probably a bit more dependable than the Packers, and they overall did a pretty good job but I really resented feeling nickel-and-dimed with all the hidden charges. I would have been okay with paying a little more for their services since it's hard to find good movers, but wish they had just been up front and honest with a closer to all-inclusive estimate. Their packing and moving services are good, but I'm not sure I'd call them again or recommend them to other folks until they can resolve their issues with all the hidden fees. If you decide to go with them, ask about *everything* including travel fees, large item fees, etc and buy your own boxes at Lowe's or Home Depot!UPDATE:I am further downgrading to 2 stars from an original 3 stars. On unpacking our boxes, I found that our expensive kitchen knives were haphazardly thrown in a box rather than packed in the knife covers we had set aside. This not only dulled our knives, but could have been very dangerous since the boxes were unmarked and knives were not wrapped.  We also had several new non-stick pans which are decidedly much less non-stick after the scratches they accrued with rough treatment they got in packing. WTF? If your job is to pack and move, then you should be expert in both, and you should handle your customers' items with care, as though they were your own. I felt very disappointed that ultimately, this company was not as 'Dependable' as the name would suggest.
