Since 1945, U-Haul has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households. Like many other successful ventures, the concept for U-Haul was generated out of need. After World War II, there existed the widespread need for do-it-yourself moving equipment that would be available on a one-way, nationwide basis. U-Haul co-founders L.S. «Sam» Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, recognized that need and acted upon it. Their visionary approach spread the cost of ownership among many users, facilitating the mobility of the populations of the U.S. and Canada. The covered wagon of the pioneers morphed into orange U-Haul trailers. In the process, an industry was born. Discharged from the Navy in the summer of 1945, 29-year-old Sam and Anna Mary tried to rent a utility trailer to move their possessions from Los Angeles to Portland, Ore. It couldn't be done. They had to take only what they could fit in the car.

customer service will tell you one thing to get you off the phone and then will double charge you the next day.do yourself a favor and try a local truck rental or moving company instead of a national corporation that won't return your calls and doesn't care about it's customers.

I rarely need to rent a vehicle. My sister was moving and I decided to lend a hand and rent a 10ft moving truck from uhaul. The on line process was very simple to complete. However on the day to pick up my truck, it was impossible to find my vehicle. There was not a single staff member there to help. After 15 mins found my truck sandwiched in between to other even larger truck. Filling out the security forms on my phone too a decent amount of time. The kick below the belt is that it was very unclear that i was only given so miles during my 4 hr rent. If I would have known I would have put more gas in vehicle. I paid an extra $24 for something that could have been easily taken care of.

It was SO nice of this company to call and inform us that our truck that we had RESERVED was no longer available, HOURS before we were supposed to pick it up. WHAT A JOKE. the representatives were unhelpful and had a "not my problem, please hold" tone. This company is disgrace and left us high and dry without an explanation. HEED MY WARNING, do not rely on Uhaul to keep your reservation! Thanks for making our moving weekend a living hell!

If I can give zero stars I would. I placed a reservation for a pick up truck which they didn't have for my selected time of arrival to borrow so the guy gave me a box truck instead with the keys to a van. I ended up with the van and the guy apologizing for the confusion. Later when I dropped off the van, I parked it in the designated area only to be told by five workers sitting in the garage hanging out that I have to drive it INTO the garage, not leave it outside of the garage. Maybe someone can tell me why they told me this as they continued to relax, why no one told me about the appropriate parking area at the beginning of my journey, and why the workers felt it appropriate to tell me that I need to do the stated task above instead of offering their assistance or telling me that it's okay especially when they're the ones getting paid because of my business. Needless to say, you have lost my business, and the intense laziness of the workers should have the owner concerned. This occurence was at the end of June by the way if anyone from the company cares.
