Do not use this company. We waited for three hours, per the contract, and they never showed up.

Thanks to Helping Hands our move was extremely smooth.  The company is wonderful at contacting within 24 hours of submitting a request.  They made it easy to book a time online and gave an estimate that was spot-on with no hidden fees.  They sent an invoice via email for a deposit, I paid the rest at the end of the move with no hidden fees at our pre-determined quote.  On day of the move, the two guys who came out to our  move were phenomenal, extremely courteous and nice.  The morning started out rough.  Our buildings elevator broke and trapped our 2 movers inside for about 1 hour. That could have completely changed their day and definitely set them behind. But they rolled with the punches and were so calm and understanding.  They worked through their lunch hour without taking a break so we bought them lunch.  I cannot say enough kind things.  Thanks for making what could have been a really hectic day so easy for us.  It made a world of difference!

It is interesting to me that the reviews here are so mixed. Did our move go perfectly? No. What move ever does? But were we pleased and satisfied? Yes. Would we use Helping Hands again? Yes.After much research and reading reviews, Better Business Bureau information, etc, we booked Helping Hands to move my dad from his home to his new apartment (he is downsizing). It was complicated because he needed packing services and we had to stop not only at his new place but also a nearby storage unit. Darryl and I corresponded first here on Yelp and then later by email several times before the move. Darryl was prompt in replying and answering my questions. Then he sent us several rounds of questions about the move and the specifics of the job. In all, I thought we were pretty well aligned and that the communication was good prior to the move. Here were are pros and cons:PROS:-The team was supposed to show up between 8 and 11 and Darryl promised me they would try their best to be there closer to 8. They arrived around 8:45, which was fine. The team of two - Colton and Floyd - were total rock stars. They were nice, they were respectful of our stuff, they asked questions when they weren't sure, they were very careful both packing and moving my dad's items and also in carefully packing the truck first to protect the items and also to ensure that everything was packed in a way that we could unload smartly at the apartment and then the storage unit. They thought it through and executed everything really well. We also appreciated that if they found items that had previously been cracked and glued back together or a table with a wobbly leg, etc, they were sure to point that out to us so that we could agree that this damage was not incurred during the move. Also, they never got grouchy, even though the move took eight hours. Really great. My dad and my sister kept asking me where I found this great moving crew.-I'm happy to say that we didn't have a single item broken in the move. Very impressed. Unpacking on the other end, we were really pleasantly surprised at how carefully our items were packed. I was also impressed with the care that was taken when the items themselves were being moved. There were several items that were a close fit through the door, and Colton and Floyd really had to work hard to get some of them through.-Obviously, the price was good compared to some of the other estimates I got. I will say, I was surprised when they rolled up in a Penske truck instead of their own truck with their own logo. They used boxes that they were recycling from Amazon, etc. It is a bit of a budget operation. It was less professionally run than other moves we've done with the big moving companies. There were no fancy numbered stickers on all the boxes or paperwork where you check off each box coming in the door. But they got the job done and the price was excellent. We felt it was a good deal for a pretty good quality move overall.CONS:-Despite discussing it prior to the move, the movers did not show up with proper packaging for the mattress or with wardrobe boxes, which I specifically asked for. However, after the move, Darryl did apologize for this oversight and offered us a good faith partial refund to make it up to us as that was their fault. We appreciated that very much.-As we were wrapping up at the storage unit (the second stop), I asked the movers if I was supposed to write them a check or what. They said that Darryl would send me an invoice, which he did as we were standing there. That was fine by me. We parted ways and I went back to join my family. All of us were starving and we sat down to eat some pizza. In the middle of this meal, I received a call from Floyd who basically said that Daryl was waiting for me to pay the invoice. I agree with Lavanya. This was really weird. If you want immediate payment, you should just ask people to write the movers a check before they leave the job. If you're going to invoice folks, give them a day or two to pay the invoice for heaven's sake. Moving is a really busy time. Moving day is insane. I think Helping Hands could eliminate this by simply asking people to pay upon completion of the job then.-I will say that I felt Helping Hands could benefit from having some more professional processes in place. It is confusing to use their website -- they use a program called Calendly where you pick your date and time slot and request it. Then they email you an invoice and you pay it to lock in your date. Then you get multiple back and forth questionnaires from Darryl. The intake seems a bit disjointed and not that smooth. And I could see how it would make some people nervous.Fortunately I am good with technology and was willing to take the risk and I am glad I did. Like I said -- our move wasn't perfect, but no move is. Overall we were pleased with our service and would recommend Helping Hands.

Daryl and his movers seem like nice people. But sounding nice isn't enough to make a good moving company. Here are some of the issues I had with my move last month:MAJOR:- They lost an important part of my bed. So when they realized this, they went rummaging through the trash to find something that could replace it. They tried using a piece of metal but my bed still wobbles tremendously.- They didn't use protective blankets or bubble wrap for my furniture so there are scratches on it and even two dents on my desk. It's cheap ikea furniture, but I still paid for it. They should do a better job. -Daryl gave me a certain estimate. The move took pretty much the amount of time he predicted it would. Plus some more because they lost a part of my bed and spent time trying to fix it (Although Daryl detracted one hour for that). However, he charged me over $200 above the upper end of the estimate range. What is the use of an estimate then? I only went with them because their estimate was lower than others. - At the end of the day, Daryl emailed me my invoice and then the movers stood outside my door until Daryl received the payment. Apparently, Daryl is very strict about this. I understand wanting to receive the payment. But you've emailed me the invoice, and I can respond to the emaI've never had another moving company stand outside my door and call me every five minutes until they got the payment. I think its unprofessional, rude, and simply, quite bizarre. MINOR:- They started ringing my doorbell and calling me early in the morning over an hour before they were scheduled to come. I got woken up really early. Then, I called them on the dot at the time they were actually supposed to arrive, and they were filling up gas. It was super annoying.- I think they worked a lot slower than other movers. I was moving a one bedroom apartment (a few boxes and a few pieces if small furniture). They were nice and made a lot of conversation. it's nice to have friendly movers but not at the expense of a longer and pricier move. - On the day of the move, it was very hard to get in touch with Daryl. - Before the move, even though Daryl responded to texts, sometimes I had to send him multiple reminders to email me something or respond to a question I had asked. He eventually did it and it's a minor point- but, it's such details that separate a whatever from a good and reliable business.

Helping Hands was fantastic for our big move! They were accommodating for a specific time frame, checked in with details and made the job fast and affordable. They included a truck but, for a discount, we had the option of renting our own. The crew was friendly, professional and affordable. I would absolutely use them again!
