STAY AWAY! MOVE ON!I should have read the reviews about this place before hiring them!First of all they tried to sell me with their customer service in hopes of getting me to hire them with statements like "I have been doing this for over 20 years and we strive to satisfy our customers." But when things end up badly, their only excuse was "Things happen. It is what it is." Really?? You provide a service and when something went wrong, you just shrug it off??So, what my situation was...I was trying to find the best rate for moving from NYC to Florida. This company seemed to have the best competing rates from what the move consultant told me. So on the day on the day of the move the foreman said they will have to charge me a few hundred more because I had a lot of stuff. What?? But I previously discussed it with the move consultant plus had supplied her with a complete list of items and boxes. I'm pretty anal retentive so I made sure every little thing was on that list and she said not to worry because she has been doing this for over 20 years. That's probably complete BS! Maybe she has been BS-ing people for over 20 years!So, the overs are already here and said I have to pay that few hundred upfront or they can't move my stuff. Now I'm stuck...pay them or my stuff won't get loaded onto the truck and I'll be homeless because someone else will be moving into that apartment. So I paid.And to top it off the foreman handed me a survey to fill out on how was the full move. And they need the form now. What? You want me complete the survey now even though you didn't load and unload my stuff to Florida??So I'm in Florida and I'll waiting for my stuff to arrive on 8/5/13. It's already 8/5 so I called them on the status of my stuff. The dispatcher said my stuff is scheduled to be delivered on 8/15/13. I said no, it's 8/5 and he argued with me saying I wrote it down on their contract as 8/15. So he pulled out the contract and apologized (I'll give them a star for this apology coz that's the only one thing they did right). He said the contracted stated it should be delivered by 8/5/13 and they'll get it out on 8/9 and arrive on 8/15.So, the day my stuff finally arrived was 8/19/2013. They were also supposed to call me the day before to prepare for the arrival. Guess what? They called on the day of the delivery...like "We'll be there in 30 minutes!" But we waited for 2 hours...So my stuff... Majority of the boxes were crushed. The internal parts of my computer were broken which can only happen if it was dropped. I did notice a crushed corner on the bottom of my PC casing. Damage to a few bookcases which looked like they were stacked on with heavy items. I'm missing a few boxes and duffel bags. Thank goodness I moved my iMac with me!Then I found out the people who did the Florida route were contracted by New York Movers. This company who delivered my stuff is called FLORIDA SOUTHWEST VAN LINES. I Googled and Yelped them. Good God...more bad reviews! Now to get reimbursement on my damaged items...both companies are pointing fingers at each other. Plus their insurance covers $0.60/pound on damages. I'll only get $20 for a damaged PC that was at least $800.So, I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND New York Movers to anyone unless they don't mind their stuff being damaged or gone missing.My next action is to try to file a small claims as well with the DOT and BBB.

I used this company 2 years ago and now that I'm about to move again, and am in the process of finding new movers, I'm having horrible flashbacks and felt compelled to share so others do not suffer the same fate.  This company was absolutely the worst. They ran late by a couple hours and kept asking me to wait because they were stuck in traffic.   Meanwhile, when I called I could totally hear that they were in another apt.  Finally after 4+ hours of delay and repeated lies that they were still "stuck in traffic"  by Chinatown (seriously, how big is Manhattan? And I was located by midtown)  I cancelled my move because my new building had rules that do not permit a move after 5pm.   So I resorted to calling another moving co - what a hassle!   Tried getting my money back but without luck initially.  Finally complained to the DOT.  The DOT had to contact them twice since they stated they would refund me and did not follow through.  Eventually after some back and forth, it was resolved.  It's inexplicable how BBB rated them A- given their horrible service.  The back and forth with the DOT is a testament of their lack of integrity and poor service. WORST DUDES EVER!! DO NOT USE.I called them to find out where they were on the day of my move  and he claimed he had no idea who I was and told me I needed to call him back and apologize when I got the right movers. Talk about causing the hugest  pain in the ass.they then called me and claimed they didnt know who the guy was that called me. Its really something someone doesn't need to deal with on the day of moving.

I am going through hell right now with this company.  I was charged 4 times the amount quoted, have been waiting a week for my things to arrive.  Don't let sweet talking "Tasha" talk you into a great quote.  She is queen of the con.  Luis and his trusty assistant like to talk on their cell phones while packing and throw boxes labeled "Glass" and "fragile" up onto their shoulders like they are pillows.  Ron, hopefully you won't work with this company to have to get as far as talking to Ron.  Zion is obviously the guy who comes in at the end to clean up the mess, but he is just as dirty as the rest of them.  Everyone warned me about moving companies, but trusted in their service and with a quote of $900 from NJ to FL,with a bunch of boxes,  how could you go wrong, right?  Well, apparently - VERY!I have a complaint in with the BBB at the moment and waiting to see what kind of response I get.Stay away from this company.

I recently noticed that this review was "filtered" out of the general population.  Considering this experience took 13 months of my life to try to rectify and the company still refused to refund my deposit or apologize for its actions, I would like my story to be known by the Yelp community.  I also noticed that even though every visible review of this company is a 1-star review, there are numerous other 1-star reviews that have been filtered for whatever reason.  You should know when making your decision that this is not a handful of unhappy customers speaking.  There are many unhappy yelpers out there when it comes to New York Movers.  Please read the filtered reviews before hiring them.
