The worst possible experience!

1. Israeli and beyond shady. The owner's name is David and he will use 3 other names to disguise himself.

2. They tell you that you don't need insurance, then steal some of your belongings (more details below). I purchased insurance anyway.

3. After they load the truck (they contract everything out), you receive a call from David stating your load required more space in the truck than estimated. He then increases the charge by 60% and holds your load hostage until you agree to the higher charge. (Don't fall for the Flat Fee lies they tell you).

4. Add at least double the estimated time to for your load to be delivered.

5. "Binding Contract" means absolutely nothing to David, he throws it out there in an attempt to get you to trust him. Complete BS.

6. Since he contracts everything out, you items will be moved from Truck, to Hub, to another Truck, etc. Your load will be dropped, misplaced, stolen, broken, etc.

7. The movers (again contracted out) will not unload your items until you pay them in Cash at the destination. Then when you count your missing boxes, they state they can't do anything about it.

8. I have never been ripped off and more pissed than dealing with Highlawn!

Stolen items:

1. Laptop Computer and Electronics Equipment
3. Shoes
4. Clothing

Damaged items:

1. Ripped upholstery on Couch
2. Broken Chair
3. Broken Desk

Over $5K worth of stolen items.
Highlawn's response: "Well, we can reimburse $11 since you can't prove anything!" I paid for insurance and this is the treatment I received. Disgusting.

STAY AWAY FROM HIGHLAWN!
Don't trust any rating above 1 Star, they are fake! I'm sure he will comment on this rating and fabricate a lie as usual.

Send me a private message I would be happy to provide screenshots of every email and text message from David, the owner.

On April 18, 2014 I received my furniture back from storage from Highlawn Moving. I had them move me from Harrison NY on September 30, 2012 to storage. I would be traveling for the next year and they told me the items would be safe. I realized that my TV was cracked during the move and the movers acknowledged the crack and that the TV no longer stood up straight. I up a claim in for the TV during the move. Later that week I realized that my couch cushions were ripped as well. After two week the entire couch started peeling. It was told they would have a claim decision with 30 days. After 30 days when I still didn't get a response I started emails and calling them. I did get a claim result until June 10, 2014. I was told that 240 were all I was due since I only had basic insurance. THIS WAS THE ONLY INSURANCE I WAS OFFERED. I would have gladly paid for additional insurance if it was offered to me. After months of arguing was told during the time that they might be able to do better than that if I just stayed patient. So I did. On August 14, 2014, I received a revised settlement of 820.00 and then later that week it was revised to 1,000.00 which I agreed to only because I wanted to rid myself the TV and couch out of my apartment and move on. We were now at over 4 month of this going on. After a few week of not receiving this payment I let Highlawn know that I needed the funds by 9/28/14 to remove so I can remove my old furniture and order new furniture and that after 9/29/14 I would be traveling so that was my last date to do so. I did not receive the payment. I now have to keep this stuff another 2 months. They also stated they did not have the $1,000.00 available to send me multiple times.

Where do I start.   The minute my things left, my nightmare started.  Two week move turned into   more than 5 weeks.  Finally after enduring rude comments and conversations and that is when I could get some one on the line, especially Mike , I never was prepared for disgusting rudeness and  nasty comments.  He would just hang up on me in the middle of the conversation.   Finally,  call when I did get a call  informing me that they are going to deliver without giving me 48 hr notice as requested, but next day.  Truck arrived and I was informed that my binding contract has been raised by 500.00 to cover their unexpected expenses.  They held my items hostage until I paid them in cash for the remainder of the contract plus additional monies before they unload.  They told me if I don't pay, they will leave and put my items in storage for which I will have to pay more.  I had to pay, then, I had damages which was evident right away.  I sent a certified mail Mike,  for which I have not even received an answer.  I am not holding my breath.

Highlawn is solid!  I did used their service in the past. I was very happy with my move in Astoria, so I reached out Susan at Highlawn again.  In all honesty I also reached out to a few other movers for a competitive bid.  Highlawn topped everyone again so I went with them.  Like the last time, a few hours after speaking with them, a Highlawn associate was at my door to assess an finalize my appraisal.  They also bought me some free boxes gratis so I may get started.  Day of the move.  Highlawn arrived on Saturday 10 minutes before our move.  It turned out smooth like last time.  Three guys, 60 boxes, 1 truck, 4hours and I am in my new apartment.  They help to  disassemble and reassemble my large furniture and pack my electronics.  Guys are pros.  I am completely satisfied and would definitely use and recommend you to my friends.

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees. This has been one of the most worst experiences. BEWARE of this company. All they do is lie and steal your money. Delivered my items 2 weeks late and they blatantly ignored our calls when we tried to follow up. Movers would only deliver our items 75ft from the truck. Again, horrible experience and do not use this company.
