These guys are awesome. Moved from Hoboken NJ to Santa Barbara CA and they arrived as scheduled (even in the snow storm). Upon their arrival they had a large crew and began wrapping and packing up all my furniture into their truck. They communicated me in the days following and let me know when the delivery would arrive in my new home in CA. Their prices are reasonable, all of my furniture was packed and unpacked with incredible care and no damage was caused to my belongings.Highly recommend these folks for your moving needs, local or long distance!

We needed to move our belongings from a townhouse in Bordentown, NJ to a one bedroom apartment in Jersey City.  Got a call from Nathan and told him the situation.  We had planned on moving on Saturday, but Nathan asked me if we were open to moving on Sunday since it would be cheaper.  I said we were.  He gave me a quote of $390 for a truck and three movers for three hours.  I thought it was strange that he didn't ask me exactly what we had, but I thought the price was right so we decided to go with them.  I called them the day before and was told the movers would be arriving between 2 and 4pm.  The next day we admittedly still had a lot to do, but were under the impression the movers would come at 2pm at the earliest.  I got a call around 12:20pm from the driver who left a voicemail telling me he was 10 minutes away.  I called him back and told him we weren't ready since we were expecting them at 2pm at the earliest and he told me that he didn't really want to work on Sunday and he would rather be home with his family.  I thought this was odd since I never once insisted on moving on Sunday and only chose it because Nathan offered it as a cheaper alternative to Saturday.  The driver asked me if I wanted to cancel and being that I didn't want to delay our move for possibly another week, I told him to come.  He said he would help us get everything ready.  So the lead guy came in with the contract and told me that the whole job was going to take more than the estimated three hours so it would end up costing us more than the quote of $390.  I asked him if he could estimate how much he thought it was going to be and he said, "I don't do estimates."  He said he would work with us the best he could and that a lot would depend on how much packing they used.  I asked him if it was going to be over $1,000 and he said probably not.  I wasn't surprised the cost was going to be over the estimate.  I expected it to be around $600.So they get all of our stuff into the van and we arrive in Jersey City a few hours later.  We got there about 10 minutes behind them and he told us they were stopping for food and that they would give us a 30 minute discount while we waited.  When they arrived the lead guy took us into the kitchen of our new apartment to close up the contract.  He said the whole job would end up taking six hours and at $100 dollars an hour it would put us at $600 plus the price of packing which sounded reasonable to me...until he told me the price of the packing...$520.  That put us at $1,120.  He then told us if we gave him a nice tip in cash plus money for tolls he would help us out and only charge the company $700.  Not being familiar with moving companies I was unsure how much he expected for a tip.  I asked him what a regular tip would be and he just looked at me and said nothing.  Feeling awkward I threw out a figure of $100 and he then told me it would be $100 dollars per person.  The final cost ended up being $1,050.  I was quite furious but since they had all of our stuff in their truck I didn't know what to do so I agreed to his terms.  I had to scramble to find an ATM where I could get the money I needed.  As I was signing the paperwork the leader asked me if I was happy.  Of course I was the opposite of happy but felt like we had no other options.  I would say they did an OK job loading, transporting, and unloading our things although a bookcase was damaged and a pair of binoculars went mysterious missing from my house.  Overall, I would definitely not recommend going with this company.  I should have known better than to trust an estimate that was way below average from the representative who didn't even have the details of what needed to be moved.  I would recommended going with a company that gives you a flat rate and to make sure you figure out all of the hidden fees (including tips) beforehand.

Worst moving experience I have ever had.I moved cross country from Boston to LA and there were issues along every step of the way. Incorrect pickup times on pickup and delivery They lost my mattress and it took 5 weeks to get it back, and it came back damaged and dirty. I must have called over 20 times and they never once called back as promised. At one point, I called and the agent told me, "I'm in New Jersey, what do you want me to do about it." They were prompt before the move with communication, but as soon as I paid the bill it was like I didn't exist. If you value your money, BOOK YOUR MOVE ELSEWHERE. I have moved over 7 times and never had a move this bad. I will be following up with a formal BBB complaint. Customer beware.

Every step of working with Great American Movers has been a complete scam and unprofessional. In the initial phone call with Kevin Sanders, he assured me "$1,600 quote included everything and your items can be picked up tomorrow (09/21) and arrive in 5-7 business days." Of course he also said "can be up to 14 days but legally we have 21 days." Instead our items were picked up on 9/24/16 where the new quote was $2,100+. Here we are 21 days since Great American movers picked our belongings up. Our phone calls have been avoided, we've been placed on hold until our calls drop and our emails have gone ignored. We finally got a call last night that the truck was in Colorado yet here we are EOD of the 21 day mark and nothing has arrived. If the service has been this much of a headache, I'm truly fearing the state of their arrival. I'm hoping for their safe arrival at this point and share my experience in hopes that YOU do not use this company for your move.UPDATE11/21Of course items arrived 22 days late with some DAMAGED and some even MISSING items. David, the dispatch manager, said he would look for the missing items and call us back end of week and of course the only phone call we got was to ask us to remove this review.  I'm in complete disbelief that he did not acknowledge the poor service we've received nor offered to rectify the situation. We now have to go through a long, tedious process with their insurance provider to start a claim which will only reimburse us .60 cent/per pound of damaged items, if we're lucky. I highly advise you to NOT use Great American Van Lines. Do not trust them with your belongings and nor do not trust their 4 star google reviews.
