5 Boro Movers

Taken from my Yelp review - just want to share on all platforms.

First off - I normally hate one star Yelp reviews as they are typically unreasonably biased and written by crazy people. That being said - I am not crazy and am here to simply warn people based on my experience. Obviously people have had a different experience with this company, but they also probably didn't have a $1200 table from CB2 broken during their move. My experience is much more similar to the review from 2013.

I hired these guys to move my girlfriends belongings out of her place into a U-haul Ubox. Simple job - she doesn't have much stuff. They sent two guys - Eric - who was very nice - and another guy who just looked like some young kid who was skinnier than myself (no judgment - I'm pretty skinny and have a fine time moving heavy stuff, but it just seemed a little shady and he didn't really talk much nor seem like he knew what he was doing.)

1. Not a huge issue but I asked them to bring tools and they did not as there was a table to disassemble. Because of this only one part of the table could make it into the Ubox - the marble table-top. The rest had to come with me in my vehicle that I drove to Minnesota.

2. The tabletop was wrapped in blankets - placed into the the Ubox and immediately fell over in front of myself and the two movers... I did not yell at them but was instead suggesting that they be a bit more careful- it was fairly thick marble and it did not appear to have fallen that hard, plus it was wrapped - so I thought it was fine... in hindsight I should have checked it out but I did not.

Flash forward to today when my things arrived in Minnesota. I have the movers take out the tabletop and it has a lovely little crack down the center of it. I call the Owner - German and text the mover Eric and let them know about this. I ask them if they are insured, he said no. I ask them if I should file a claim with Uhaul using my Ubox insurance - which does not cover this - so I asked him what he plans on doing. He said "prove it" and then hung up on me and is currently not answering any of my calls.

As I used movinghelp.com to hire them - I contacted them to see what the deal was as he was apparently banned form this platform years ago according to the previous review - but wasn't actually. MH.com refuses to do anything and told me to contact German Hincapie - the Owner - who is not answering and who I imagine is screening my calls.

I am now in Minnesota - with a broken table that was a graduation gift for my girlfriend - literally her only "nice thing" as she puts it and no one wants to take responsibility for breaking it. Wonderful.

Should I have checked the table out after it fell? 100%. Should both of these companies been a little more responsible in dealing with this? 100%.

Would I recommend this company to anyone? No - their cost was high, skill level was low and clearly will not take any responsible for whatever they break nor are they insured. If you don't care about your stuff - fine - but there are cheaper movers out there than $90/hr.

I will post any updates as needed, but avoid at all costs.

These guys were great. Fast and helpful. We were a mess on moving day, but they took it in stride. They dont provide trucks, just labor.

I discovered these guyz through the u-haul website when I was hiring a truck to move apartment. German (I assume the boss) was very responsive and the team he sent around to help were nice guyz, on time and worked hard. We all pitched in and got the chore done with a few laughs. Their prices were very reasonable and fair - and it was a great deal - and I was happy to tip the guyz at the end for bustin their rears. So I can certainly recommend 5 Boro Movers. I left a review on the U-haul site and I am leaving one here as well - so that other folks can stumble across them too.If you want to move apt in New York - don't use moving companies if you're on a tight budget and just need a hand with lifting stuff - use 5 boro movers or a similar company, hire your own truck and you'll find it all costs way way way less.

These guys did a great job. I called Carlos directly to set up my moving time. They arrived promptly the day of the move and finished under time. I appreciated their careful pace during the move. The truck was expertly packed and before they left Carlos oriented me as to where fragile things had been tucked away so that I was aware when I got to my new city. Well worth the money!

DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS. 0 stars is not nearly a low enough rating. I had to give them one star because the app wouldn't let me leave zero. These movers will NOT show up and they will leave you stranded with an apartment full of boxes and no help to move them!!!!I am not sure where all these good reviews come from. I got their number (which is only VM - don't expect any contact the day you actually need to speak with someone) from my neighbor who used their services on 12/17. For him, they were an hour late but he said "packed the truck really well". I scheduled a truck-loading two weeks in advance for a move on 12/29 at 10am. I am 6 months pregnant and my husband and I needed help loading a moving truck to move across country. THESE MOVERS DID NOT SHOW UP. I called an hour before the move to see if they could come early, as I was instructed to do by Hermann when I made the reservation. Left a VM with "Hermann" as is his practice. His message always promises to return calls within the hour. Called again at 10:05 when I hadn't heard back. Called again at 1030, 1050, 1115, 1130, noon. No return calls, no movers at my door as promised. These jerks left me with no one to help me load a truck. I am strong, but pregnant enough that I couldn't do much in the way of hauling boxes into a truck. I finally found a really nice guy on Craigslist who owns a moving company and actually ANSWERS his phone who rushed over to help my husband and a friend of ours load our truck. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS!!!! Because of them, we left FOUR hours later than we were supposed to, got stuck in rush hour traffic and couldn't even get to our new home until late on New Year's Eve. What should have been a day and a half event took THREE DAYS because of their dishonesty and incompetence and total disregard for the importance of a SCHEDULED MOVE. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS!!!! Sure they are cheap, but they will leave you in the worst bind possible. Don't risk it. Pay a little more for a reputable company who you can SPEAK with when you call them.DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS! I wish I could give them lower than 0 stars. Find someone better on Craigslist or shell out for Two Guys and a Truck, especially if you are doing a long-distance move. Dont't call these jerks for ANYTHING!!!
