We used Under One Roof for the second time in March of 2012. The first time we used them, we referred to them by a friend in 2006 and the first move when fairly well.Unfortunately, the move in March of 2012 was quite the opposite. The issues that we had recently were that the company lost a very expensive and sentimental antique and the move took much longer than we were originally quoted. My grandmother and my sons' great-grandmother gave the antique that was lost to me. The piece was valued at between $1000-$3000. We knew that it was missing the morning after the move because we literally moved from one house to another about 1 mile between the two. We called the owner the morning after our move at 8 AM to inform him of the loss. We were told to look again because he was sure that it was at our new home. It was not. When we contacted Under One Roof for the second move, we had the owner come over and go through the home from where we were moving to see exactly what items would be moved. We wanted to make sure that he was going to be able to give us a realistic quote. He quoted 10 hours with 4 guys and 2 trips. The day of the move, 3 guys showed up and the entire day they kept asking, "Does this go?" while pointing to objects. I kept telling them that EVERYTHING goes. Everything in every room and all of the items in the garage. Later in the day, the foreman told me that he was not told that the garage needed to move. I was perplexed because Tony the owner came and did the quote. The move ended up taking about 4 more hours than what were quoted and 4 trips. At the end of a very long and stressful day, we were asked to pay a big difference. I explained that we were not happy about that because we were supposed to have 4 guys and the team seemed very disorganized throughout the day. We had plainly labeled all of the boxes with the names of the rooms in which they should be placed. They just put boxes in miscellaneous rooms. After much discussion, the owner's wife (who is apparently the person who wears the pants in the business) agreed to lower the price on the overall move. I never was able to speak to her though; all of the negotiation was done through the foreman. When we realized that the sentimental antique was lost, it took several phone calls to convince them that it truly was missing. My assumption was that when the guys were loading the items into the truck late into the evening, it was set aside and someone came and picked it up when nobody was watching the truck. I told Tony this and he just said, "You don't know." I have been trying to work with Tony since the item went missing. He essentially told me that I signed an agreement that states that they will only pay be $0.30 per pound. He informed me that I should have purchased additional insurance. Well, I was never offered additional insurance when I was given the original quote or on the day of the move. Also, I did not sign any contracts only the statement with the final amount at about 11 PM the night the move ended.I should also mention that after the move was finished, I went back to our home and found that a HUGE piece of art was left along with the large ivory box with my wedding dress. Both items were so big, there is no reason the guys should have missed them. I am really glad that I went back over to our old home. In dealing with Tony, it seems that his wife is really the person who is making all of the decisions but she has been avoiding me. I was also told that they had filed a claim with their insurance company but nobody has contacted me from the insurance company in the past 3 1/2 months since the item was lost.Lastly, the most disconcerting thing is that Tony has been extremely rude throughout the entire process. He keeps referring to the fact that he lowered the overall bill the evening of our move and he is clearly unhappy that we asked him to do that. He keeps connecting the bill with the lost item. He has offered to replace the antique with one that is between $250-$300. The only fair resolution that I see is that he pay us $1,000 (which is on the lower end of the comparables) so that we can at least put that money in our boys' college fund since I can no longer give any of them the piece of furniture from their great-grandmother.Unfortunately, Tony and his wife Michelle are not willing to do the right thing by us and I would like to make sure that nobody else has to deal with these unprofessional people.

Following in the footsteps of The Great Apartment Hunt of 2011, came The Great Apartment Discovery of 2011. Naturally, we needed to get our stuff from the old place to the new. I love my friends, so movers it was.I knew who I *wasn't* hiring, so who else would I turn to than my trusted yelpers? You certainly didn't let me down!In short, best.move.ever. Whoa. How often can you say that??I communicated with Tony prior to the move date by phone and email. He was very professional and helpful. He offered a reasonable estimate for my houseful of stuff and we were set.On moving day, Tony called and said the guys were gassing up the truck and would be just a few minutes late, which was fine. No more than ten minutes or so later, they arrived and all was a go. While I was taking care of things at the new location, my +1 was at the old place managing the movers and the big move. Not once did I get a panicked call about any of the guys or the move, except, "We're done and on our way over with the truck." What a relief!Every mover was friendly and respectful of us, our old and new apartments, and our belongings, as well as wary of the fact that they were on the clock on my dime. They moved fast! This was a crew of movers, not just hired muscle. They came equipped with straps, carts, padding, wrap, and boxes (all included in the moving price!). We were even able to use wardrobe boxes to haul out all of that miscellaneous stuff you'd normally waste your time carrying down little by little. It went right on the truck, baby! When all was said and done, the move ran only slightly longer than the estimate. The move was pricey for us, only due to the amount we had to move. Since everything (tape, wrap, etc) was included, the rate was a pretty darn good deal. It was worth every penny to have a nearly stress-free move day and work with great people. After my last move, I dreaded another move and dealing with movers again. Under One Roof restored my faith that the job can get done and get done well. I've already spread the word by mouth, so here's my written word: hire them. I will again if I ever move out of The Great Apartment Discovery of 2011.

Hired these movers a week ago to move my belonging from storage to my home.  And to my surprise they were 2 hrs late, one of the guys had a developmental problems so it took him longer to pick up items.  The lead mover had a bad attitude and damaged my bed while the other ruined my carpet with tracking mud all up my stairs.

AWESOME AWESOME! Tony was great in helping us with  the logistics of our move. The movers arrived exactly on time, Jose who was in charge was very professional!! We had to hire 4 guys, because we had a 3rd and 4th story walk up. The movers took turns and hustled with our move. We had nothing missing or broken, the price was just right. These guys did a great job, we even included a nice tip. My sister and best friend used this company 2 months prior and had a great experience as well. Thanks Under One Roof!!! Will use again!!!

I heard of Under One Roof from a friend who recommended them. I needed help moving from a 3 bedroom apartment downtown to the suburbs. I agree with the stellar recommendation as I had a wonderful experience with the guys (Larry, Clarence, Frank & Steve). They showed up on time and were pleasant and cheerful the whole (long!) day. Since I underestimated the amount of junk I owned, they had to get a larger truck and this was done in a quick, no-complaints manner. They were fast and efficient, and they packed that truck as tight as a jenga tower. Nothing broke and as far as I can tell nothing was lost. It takes some patience to get used to Tony when booking your appointment, but he is very detail oriented and ensures the job gets done well.
