EDIT 2017-03-25:I have continued to work with the folks at this facility.  They have worked to improve access and realize they have a bottleneck where you enter the facility.   They tell me there is more parking coming out back.  Entrance from back is needed too for at least foot traffic.  This will help when the main entrance is full of vehicles.Jason is the guy who runs this place and he goes out of his way to make this an attractive option for storage.  He cares, he tries his best within the constraints he has with corporate SSS.  I now have 3 units here.  I think that says the most.  I had one when I posted my original review and despite the shortcomings I hit, Jason has earned my business.   This place isn't perfect but it is better than the many I've dealt with in the last 4-5 years.

We had no trouble renting two storage units here when we needed to clear space in our condo to help with staging it for sale.  We were able to drop off stuff into our units at all hours and Jason was very helpful every time I went there.  When the movers came to pick up our stuff it was also quite easy to get moved out.  This was my first time using a storage unit and it was easier than I thought it would be.

I was very happy with this storage facility. It was very easy to get my initial rental set up, and even easier to move out. The staff at this facility are excellent. On my move out day, the staff arrived to the facility a half an hour before official opening time to reserve a space in the bay for the moving truck. They allowed my movers to use a reserved elevator and let them use the elevator key to expedite the move. It saved a lot of time and stress. I highly recommend this facility.

I would *strongly* recommend against renting here, because if there is a problem, they're going to be rude, defensive, and cheap, and they're going to do as little as humanly possible to help you fix it. They're friendly and "helpful" up until it actually requires something of them.I put my entire life's possessions in the unit over the summer. I came back after two weeks to pick a few things up, and a pipe running overhead had leaked into my unit, straight onto my kitchen table. When I told the building manager, he was defensive about it, and actually told me off for telling him about it in front of potential customers! (As if they didn't have a right to know.) They switched me to a different unit two floors down, and offered neither help nor compensation for the fact that I had to move all my stuff by myself that day, which took me over 8 hours since I couldn't get help on short notice. They wouldn't even lend me a second lock so that my stuff would be secure as I went back and forth between the floors. I asked them if they would up my insurance to a better plan, in lieu of any other compensation, and they even refused that. (They refused to do *anything* because "That's what insurance is for," despite the fact that insurance doesn't cover time spent moving units or any other additional costs, only damaged items.)They claim to never have had an issue with damage in a unit before, but if that's the case, would it have killed them to do *something* to show that they actually care about their tenant? Help me move my dresser, which was an impossible one-person task? Spend ten bucks a month to up my insurance? Even a token gesture would have been something, as compared to the "go-f*ck-yourself" attitude that I got. It makes me thing that issues must be much more common than they claim, if this is how they have to deal with it when they come up.

Manager (?), Jason often offers assistance moving items for young unaccompanied women. Helpful for some, I guess. Although the place is password secured, and has (misused) surveillance, the environment still leaves one with a sense of vulnerability.  Especially with only one person on duty (or none).Parking is difficult with only two spots availible, on a very crowded street. The facility is kept clean. For the most part, I spent a year there almost incident free. That said, Management definitely lacks customer service skills, and responds to complaints with hostility. So if you rent there, please, cross your fingers and hope you never have a complaint. I was left with a clear understanding that THEY were doing ME a favor by renting me a unit (given the "high demand in the area").After an incident where I was harrassed and very much offended by the manager on duty, I called the district manager to express my feelings and to share with him the incident. He returned my call the next day asking for my "version" of what happened,  responding at first with jokes, and attempts at small-talk, making my very real experience feel disregarded. He followed it with praising the manager that had offended me, and continued by flaunting his own managerial achievements/qualifications i.e. how many units, and employees, and renters he manages... and so forth.  After expressing my extreme discontent, the magnitude of the insult, and even suggesting ways of improvement, the district manager was much more defensive, than sincere and apologetic. In the end he was very crass and flat out asked what I wanted from him (as if I was looking to shake him down). I was offered a discount, but what I really wanted in exchange for my business... was empathy, reassurance and resolution. That is not something that should have to be (literally) asked for. Needless to say, my business is now going elsewhere. If looking to rent, I'd suggest the new "Extra Space Storage" that just opened on Devon and Ravenswood. They have WAY lower rates, on much larger units, a lot more parking, and so far... none of the arrogance. There's also a new place on Touhy just east of McCormick, so brand new they're not on the website yet but worth checking out.
