History

Established in 2006. Coffey Bros. Moving was formed in Chicago by two hard-working brothers who were looking to break free from the corporate world and become entrepreneurs of their own. They began working together and excelled in many trades. However, they quickly developed a niche for moving. Within a year, they earned a reputation as professional, honest, reliable and affordable movers. And what started out as a 2 man moving labor service, turned quickly into a full-service licensed and insured moving company with over 50 employees!

First they loaded the container very loosely, so I ended up being charged for a full container when in reality I needed less than half a container. Second, because items were loose, many of the items were broken including the TV.

My recent experience with this moving company was extremely disappointing. Not only did they crack my $180 computer case I've loved since I got it in May of 2014 during the move, but they were also unable to disassemble my bed due to their lack of standard tools. This resulted in them stripping one of the hex screws on my bed, which will require a lot of effort to remove.
To add to the frustration, they lost one of the bed legs during the move, leaving me unable to find a replacement and forcing me to replace the entire bed at an unexpected cost.

I’ve never left a negative review of a company and frankly it makes me uncomfortable to do so. I’ve spent days searching every inch the my apartment in the hopes I’d find it and not have to post this review.

But the disappointment didn't stop there. Just two days later, my brother used the same company and also had a negative experience. As someone who was there with him, I can confirm that the movers appeared to be under the influence of marijuana, which made the entire experience uncomfortable and unprofessional. They also smelled strongly of marijuana, which only added to our discomfort.
Given the problems we experienced in both moves over the span of just three days, I highly recommend avoiding this moving company if you can. However, if you do decide to use them, make sure to purchase the maximum amount of insurance possible to protect yourself from any damages that may occur during the move.

We had a wonderful moving experience with Coffey Bros. Great communication and customer service. Professional but friendly. I"m so happy I got the recommendation from a friend AND they told me that they will estimate much higher than they will charge. It cost about half the estimate. We worked with Tome, Jeff, and Enrique.

This is a very late review of our experience with Coffey Bros on 6/30/2016 and 8/2/2016.From all the moving companies we've worked with in the past, Coffey Bros. Moving was the only company we've had a terrible experience with. Here are the facts:Our lease ended in our apartment at the end of June 2016, but we were not closing on our new home until August 1st of 2016. We decided to rent a 10x15 storage unit in Extra Space Storage located on Montrose to store our items from June to August and to also store some boxes we packed ahead of the move. We completed the estimate form with Coffey Bros stating that we are moving from our 3 bedroom apartment to our storage unit.* 1 of 3 movers stood around most of the time while the other two were wrapping large furniture with plastics and blankets. Needless to say, moving our items from our apartment to the truck took longer than estimated/expected.* After movers loaded the truck and drove to our Extra Space Storage, the truck couldn't clear the gate's height limit. We are now stuck outside our facility with all our items in the truck, while the clock is still ticking.* We call the manager Kenneth Coffey for help and he mentioned that they've had issues with their trucks' height clearance with this specific storage facility and they are sorry they didn't catch that in the estimate. Whoever reviewed our documents missed the facility on record.* Kenneth's solution is to store our belongings with a facility they are affiliated with which is Chicago North Side Storage in Lakeview. All our property in the moving truck were stored in 3 smaller units. We now have a unit with Extra Space Storage for $200/mo and an additional $300/mo storage with Chicago North Side Storage.* Kenneth asked if I wanted to remove the blankets from our large items before storing them. Before I could answer, he also mentioned that it will add more time for the movers (which at this point they're already over their estimated time from moving our items from our apartment to the truck and having to drive to two different storage facilities.* I opted to keep the blankets on our items because of the amount of time it might take the movers to remove them. I also thought that on the day of the move to our new home, they wouldn't need to spend time wrapping the same items with a blanket. But now, I will be charged $21/week for renting the blankets (I hoped renting the blankets was cheaper than paying for more time with the 3 movers).* During the 30 days our property was stored with Chicago North Side Storage we could only access the unit by making an appointment with Coffey Bros since the units rented are under their name and not mine. We tried to get something out of storage on two separate occasions, but Coffey Bros. made it very difficult to do so. We have to have a manager with keys meet us at the facility to unlock the units and also needed a mover to meet us there, whose sole purpose is to find the items we needed. We couldn't touch any of our items in the units because, again, the units are rented under their name and that is their policy. We decided we can live without the items we needed and not deal this process.* My wife and I wanted to hire different movers to move our items from Chicago North Side Storage to our new home at the end of the month, but this will require us to switch over the units to our name and pay extra for insuring our property for the 30 days it was stored with them. We are now stuck using Coffey Bros. for our second move since we didn't want to part with more money.* Lastly, a sofa, my son's train table, and a tv media center were damaged during our move on 8/2/2016. The process of filing a claim for the damaged items was very difficult. Someone came out in December 2016 to fix the damages.

Updating my review but not my rating even though I was just threatened with legal action by Coffey Brothers. Fair warning, if you give them a bad review, they will apparently threaten to sue you? And they continue to refuse to address our main problem with our move which was the fact that the movers told us that they had wrapped a delicate item when they, in fact, did not. We accept the result of the claim we filed regarding the coffee table. They are claiming that this review was posted in an attempt to "sway the company to pay out on your claim." For the fourth or fifth time, guys, this isn't about the coffee table! It's about your employees lying to us, insisting that they had wrapped our stereo console when they didn't!  It would be nice if the company would acknowledge this but they apparently never will.So anyway, if this is the type of company you want to do business with...one that will threaten to sue you for a factual, negative review of their company based on a bad experience with said company, then I guess Coffey Brothers is for you! It's hard to believe that they take these Yelp reviews so seriously but refuse to address actual concerns of customers and deal with concerns in this manner.
