I'm really surprised to see so many one-star reviews for Affordable.  Everyone has a bad day sometimes, I guess.  I've hired them twice in the last 10 years, and was quite happy with their service each time.  My first move was from a third-floor walk up to a high rise, and then later from the high rise to a single family home in the burbs.  When negotiating an arrival time, they requested a 1 hour window, and each time arrived within that hour.  I found that they exercised great care with my furnishings, not only when loading the truck, but also unloading at the new location.  They made every effort to make sure that the furniture (especially the heavy larger pieces) was placed in the exact spot I wanted.  All furniture is wrapped to protect from damage.  I find that their rates are very reasonable.  The other option, of course, is to con your friends into helping you move, promise them pizza and beer, only to have them damage everything you own.  Really...it's worth hiring professionals.  I would definitely recommend Affordable.

We hired Affordable  Moving Company to move us across town from a highrise condominium  in Lakeview to a home in Bucktown in April. We hired them to pack us and to handle the move. I could complain about the waste of the packing materials, but that is not the basis for our complaint. Before they began the move, they asked us if we wanted to purchase the additional insurance, just so that we would not have to worry if anything was damaged by the movers. We paid the extra fee.The movers damaged brand new wall paper in the vestibule outside of our condominium. We had just replaced the wall paper before listing our place for sale. The movers must have dropped something against the wall because it was scratched and ripped in a handful of places. Thats not all. Towards the end of a very long day of moving, the movers dropped a designer, marble, end table. It slipped through the hands of one of the guys and he felt terrible.We were told that Affordable has a marble restoration person, and were asked to get a quote to replace the torn piece of wall paper. The table has not been fixed or replaced. The wall paper has not been replaced (we purchased extra materials and got our installer to agree to come do it). Now Affordable is no longer answering emails or telephone messages.We are going to have to file a lawsuit to recover.Beware of these scammers. I would think twice about using them, and definitely don't bother with the extra insurance. Though they appear to be honest, and say all of the right things, when push comes to shove, they don't honor their own moving policy.

We used them over labor day weekend to pack boxes, store overnight, and unpack the following day.  They were affordable, on time and efficient.  I do highly recommend their services.  They are nice guys and worked hard.  They did not charge us to store our things in the moving truck overnight.  They accept cash, check and credit cards.  I was so worried about this move, but it went smoothly!

I am not even sure why thy are called affordable movers! I got a quote to move from one bedroom to a two bedroom walk up that ran close to a $1000! The guy who gave me a quote had an attitude about it too when I questioned why it would cost so much and he broke it down why I need at least three full hours to move 10 blocked west of my current place. Maybe consider changing your name to "Will cost you an arm and leg movers"

They gave a window of when they would arrive that was 3 hours in length.   They were still late.  It felt ad though they forgot about my appointment when o called them.  Then they went to the completely wrong address when dropping off.  A 45 minute job turned into 3 hour ordeal.  And that doesn't include the 3 hours I waited for them to show up for the pick up.  6 hours of my day to move a chair and two end tables. The dispatcher graciously offered to not charge me for the time his guys 'got lost'.  Gee thanks.   Pass on this  company.  Will never use them again.
