Wow! This company had a worker who harassed me and wrote all over my boxes. Even asked a family member for my cell phone number over and over until the wrong number was given. Called the GM, Mike D to ask for a refund and he said that its NOT in their policy to refund customers! Guess harassing them is. Be careful! They don't screen workers!!Customer service does not matter with this company! They take your money and its over. United Van Lines should re-think this company! NEXT STOP BBB

I was really happy working with S & M Moving.  The sales person was knowledgeable, efficient, personable, and accurate with her estimate.  The coordinator followed through on every detail and stayed in continuous communication.  And the lead driver was professional, communicative, and took great care of all my stuff.  I had no problem with the pricing like other reviewers have had, plus, the whole experience went really, really well.

We moved from Stockton, CA to Rancho Cucamonga, CA in early June of 2014 and had the misfortune of awarding the bid to S & M Moving Systems.  This was a corporate relocation, so 3 bids were required by my company.  S & M was not the cheapest, but seemed to have the best service and were the most professional, until the day of the move that is....  The packing was scheduled for a Tuesday, the loading of the truck for a Wednesday and, because it wasn't certain how long the packing and loading would take, the delivery in Southern California was set for Friday or Saturday.  The packing went fine.  This crew was very thorough and efficient.  As they were finishing they asked "what day do you want delivery"?  We told them that it was supposed to be Friday or Saturday.  He said "I'm not asking when the company wants to do it, I'm asking when do YOU want it"?  We told him Friday, now that it was certain that the packing was done and the truck would be fully loaded and done on Wednesday.  Wednesday came and the truck and loaders showed up.  Again, the loading went well and they were done by 3 in the afternoon.  This time the foreman of the loading crew asked when we wanted delivery.  We told him Friday.  He stated that that would be no problem.  (It's no more than a 10 hour drive, even with a semi)  As they left on Wednesday the foreman said "See you on Friday morning between 8 and 9 am".  We were very pleased that we would have our goods on Friday and would have all day Saturday and Sunday to get settled before having to start our new jobs on Monday.During the drive down to Southern CA on Thursday (in our personal vehicle) we got a call from a United Representative that was handling our move.  She said that everything was set for the unload on Saturday!  I questioned her and told her that the foreman had promised us Friday and she was very puzzled.  I told her that the truck had better be there on Friday, like promised!  She said she would see what she could do.  After 3 more calls, she told us that there was no way Saturday was possible.  The crew had been diverted to another move and our target day was Saturday anyway.  She had no explanation as to why the foreman promised Friday and stated that he had no right to do that.  Needless to say, I had a few choice words for her, but had no choice but to resign to a Saturday delivery.  The condo we were moving to is part of a large, gated complex with narrow streets and the unit is far in the back.  So, it was part of the contract that a shuttle truck was going to be needed because the complex was too tight for a semi.  Saturday morning comes and the crew calls me from the street.  I told them I would be right out. As I am walking towards the entry gate, I see the semi approach the gate and start to enter!  I couldn't believe what I was seeing and I couldn't believe that anyone that drives a semi for a living would be stupid enough to think that it would be a good idea to drive into this community!  Sure enough, he drives right in and had to make an immediate left after entering.  As he made the turn, the back of the trailer swung and hit the gate, stone column and pergola at the entrance of the complex!  It broke the gate and took pieces off of the pergola and column.  I had had enough at this point.  I totally went off on the driver in the middle of the parking lot.  I asked him why they didn't have a shuttle truck and he claimed that he knew nothing about it.  When I contacted United Van Lines main office, they were incredulous that the driver showed up without the shuttle and they confirmed that it was indeed part of the contract.  They were also livid that the driver had taken it upon himself to bring the semi into the complex.  In the end, United Van Lines did cover all of the damage and we got our possessions back.  But I would NOT recommend S & M Moving Systems to anyone!!

I'm writing this as an update to my previous poor review of S&M moving.  I've updated my review.  Communication seems to be the frequent cause of most misunderstandings.  No different in this case.  S&M moving charged our account the full estimate as described in my first review.  It was not made clear to me that further calculations of actual man-power, labor and materials would be done to retroactively refund your account after the move had been completed.  This is exactly what happened.  They've since refunded us money that correlates to all the work my wife and I did prior to the actual move.  Overall experience good, hence the 4/5 stars now.  I think communication could have been better to more appropriately set expectations.  But overall great experience.  They did a fine job.  Things get broken.  That happens.  So far they've been good with trying to rectify those issues.

Worst International move EVER!This was our 4th international move and it was by far the worst. The only pleasant part was the walk around the house with Mike, who then gave us a quote .It wasn't the cheapest, but we went with a friends recommendation. EVERYTHING after that went wrong. On the first day of packing, I was happy to see 6 guys arrive and thought: wow, great to have a big crew...well, they arrived at 10, taking a looong lunch break at noon and went home at 4...next day only TWO guys arrived. The third day, everything was supposed to be ready for the 40foot container, but of course,,it wasn't so some guys started loading the container while others still packed. It started to look tight in the container so we  showed them a few bigger items that could stay behind. They said: Oh,no worries, everything will fit just fine! At 6pm,panic started as the container was almost full and a third of my stuff was still not ready. Remark: the items that we DIDNt want packed because of the space issue were already in the container...the packers tried to contact the office but yeah, right,at 6pm no one is working there any more. They said: do you need your mattresses? YES, because this is an INTERNATIONAL move and European mattresses DO NOT FIT on US beds...then they pointed to some sofa parts...Do you need this ? YES, because you morons already packed the other half and I am not moving with only parts of my furniture. They decided to order a smaller container at extra cost,of course. It was nerve wrecking. Next morning,I called the office, complaining, and they said I could "come down to the pier and look through the container and see what can stay...Hello? I was about to fly out to Europe and now they want me to check through the items that the guys could not do before? Unpacking the boxes 8 weeks later, I was shocked to see that some BIG boxes only included for example a bath towel and tons of packing paper...so a BIG waste of space which could have been used much better. The labeling of the boxes were also sloppy so that the guys in Europe had no clue what it said .Small parts were all  over the place,we had no clue where it belonged to,  and screws missing to assemble some furniture. The local contact person was rude and did not always respond to messages. We also had a car shipped with them and this was another disaster. All paperwork had been done and sent to them prior to our move, this was confirmed by them. When the car arrived 8 weeks later, it was stuck in customs because they were missing a document which we never heard of. Then they said they made a mistake giving us only a quote for the car to be delivered at the harbor and not as initially quarantined to our new home. They did not charge more though as they understood their mistake. The second container arrived 8 weeks after the first container was delivered which was unfortunate as we still couldn't fully assemble all of our furniture ( remember I said they put half in one container, the rest on the 2nd...) and the second crew was shocked when I asked them to assemble the last furniture and take the remaining empty boxes,as stated in the contract. I had to argue with them until they finally did their job. Many things were broken due to poor packing. I am still waiting for the claim inspector ( we moved in July!!) This was truly the worst move ever and I would never ever recommend this company !
