History of Piedmont Moving Systems


The founders of Piedmont Moving Systems knew a thing or two about building a business from scratch. One of the original owners of Piedmont was Ray Bartels. After starting another moving company in 1977, he, along with David Bartels, Dan Thompson, and Jim Kneer, started Piedmont in 1981 with the intention of providing quality, cost-effective moving services to both residential and commercial customers.

Piedmont opened for business on November 1, 1981. Just a year later the company became a Mayflower agent and moved their headquarters from Milpitas, California to San Jose. Over the next 13 years, the team worked to build a reputation for providing remarkable service with a customer-first attitude. Going the extra mile worked for Piedmont as the client base grew and the company became known as the go-to movers for technology and high-dollar transport solutions.

In 1993, David Bartel’s daughter Tabatha Beltramo started working at Piedmont, followed the next year by Mark Beltramo. They have both held positions in sales, operations and management. In March of 2013, Mark became President of Piedmont Moving Systems and Tabatha currently fills the role of Vice President.

Recognizing an opportunity to fill a niche in high value and special products transport, the decision was made to become a Unigroup Logistics provider in 2014. The following summer, they announced that Piedmont would no longer handle household moves, instead choosing to focus on the special products transportation side of their business.

Today, this Silicon Valley-based transportation company provides comprehensive moving services that are tailored to the needs of local businesses. From computers to hospital equipment and from hotels to fragile lab equipment. The highly trained, and professional moving team at Piedmont can handle the most valuable items with care.

We chose Piedmont (Mayflower part of Bartels Moving Systems) because of the positive referrals we read.  The company met and even exceed our expectations for their professional demeanor, knowledge and respect for our belongings  The crew arrived on time and kept to their schedule with precision.  Ours was not a small move and the crew made it  appear so easy.  Thank you for a job well done.   Mike   Mountain View  CA

I don't understand YELP! I wrote a glowing review of Piedmont Moving Systems because I got great service and a great price. But it stayed up for only one day. I have no problem putting on a review when a company or business does me wrong---but why yank a review when it is positive. BY THE WAY--I dont work for the company, dont own stock in the company, dont have family who work for the company---they just did a really professional, really reasonably priced move for me.Who do we write to complain about YELP when they censor positive reviewschris e

These guys are great! I hired Mayflower for a long distance move and needed a shuttle with the local guys due to where I live. They were quick, efficient, and did not even take a break! Scott quoted me for my move and was a rockstar throughout the process. Highly recommend these guys!

Steve Rudnich and Piedmont is everyone should stay away from.   They would BS there way through to obtain business.  I had scheduled my move with Mayflower from San Juan Bautista, CA to Sugar Land Texas.  When I had inquired about the days of the move, I was first told I can move either Friday or Saturday and rates remain the same.  Initially I had reserved a spot for Friday, then due to my new job schedule, I had to move it for pick up Saturday.  During the change, I was told there is an OT charge for Saturday move, which took my rate up $300 up.  After going back and forth, I decided to give up and not fight on $300.  I received a call on June 5th from Stacey, to confirm my pick up for June 6th, then I was told that my delivery spread is from June 11th to June 24th!!! During the time of booking, I was told my Steve delivery spread is 5-10 days, now the dispatcher is telling me it's 15-20 days!!! I had called a day before my pick up to  Mayflower corporate office to complain.  After my complain Mark (GM) called me, rather than finding a way to resolve my issue, he had the nerves to tell me that I can cancel my move with them and go with someone else.  I was on the flight back from Houston to California to make this move, and to find out that this is how they treat there customer was unbelievable.  There lack of customer service and no caring attitude will also be shared with BBB.  Mayflower needs to find better local agent as Piedmont movers are tarnishing their name and reputation.  My brother is making a move in July 1st, and he will not use Mayflower and we will save our family and friends from using Mayflower.  Unfortunately, I am stuck and in the mercy of getting my belongings to Texas, but would ask everyone else to rethink before booking with these guys.
