Extra Space Storage

This location is by far one of the best in Extra Space Storage I've ever dealt with and I say this having had many different spaces at other properties within ESS, as well as other storage companies.This review is about the couple of units my wife and I have had for several years here.  The facility is always very clean, the staff is VERY pleasant and helpful, and prices are often lower than competitors. The lighting, which can be unreliable I've found at other places, is very good. They provide several carts just outside the door, which may seem obvious, but I've found at other places they can be often m.i.a., but not here. I never experienced any problems with the elevator or access to the site. The bathroom is very well maintained.The site is tucked away in a little corner off Sunnyoaks and Dell, near San Tomas and Winchester. It's relative difficulty in being found aids somewhat in its attractiveness. A hidden gem. One small point is the small parking lot, but this has never really been an issue for us.It is quite cold one the main floor where we had our larger unit and the upper floor was unconditioned, but being made aware of this from the beginning helped manage what we put where.

I was looking for a storage unit to store all of my personal and holiday belongings. I booked a space online at this location and was informed I would be receiving a call back. The call back was from Amy. She has a welcoming friendly, voice and was very helpful. We set up a same day appointment for me to reserve my unit. I arrived 20 minutes early and let her know that if she needed I could come back at our scheduled time. She stopped what she was doing and insisted my early arrival was okay. I never like to do that to people, but she was just as sweet in person as she was on the phone, made me feel welcomed. It was quick and smooth. I feel safe with my stuff here knowing there is always someone on site. Yes, I would highly recommend this location :)

I went in yesterday to check out the sizes of the storage units since I needed more of a visual instead of just online photos (which is also very helpful, but it's easier to figure out what will fit if I am standing in the unit).  Chip was INCREDIBLY helpful and quite patient while I "visualized".  He listened to what I was trying to fit in there and came up with a better option than what I had thought of in the first place.  Setting up my account/lease was relatively easy.  If you have renter's insurance not through the company (I have mine with my car insurance company), be sure to bring a copy of the contract because they need a copy to rent you a unit.  Otherwise you will have to get one through Extra Space.  ALSO - check the internet prices and know what they are for this location. If you tell them you will go home and sign up there for it, they will honor the internet price in the office!The storage spaces themselves are quite decent.  I like that each building you need to put your gate/passcode in in order to access that particular building - unlike places where you enter a code at the front gate and you can go wherever after you get in.  The reason you need to put in your passcode (and not just enter if it's already open) is a very good reason.  Each unit is SEPARATELY and LOUDLY alarmed, and if you don't put your passcode in and someone (or you) are opening the door to your unit, it will scream blood murder until it's fixed.  Nice piece of security.  They also have lots of WORKING cameras everywhere.Access times to the units are earlier and later than other places, which is awesome since I work wonky hours.  OH!  And if you're going in the winter time, BE SURE TO BUNDLE UP.  It's COLDDDDDDDDD inside.  Glad I had a long-sleeved top and a thick zipper hoodie on.IF YOU ARE GOING TO MOVE OUT, make SURE to give them 10 days' notice or you can't get the prorated rate for just a few days rent while you move out.  (Ahem, I overheard this with another customer that didn't remember that).Thanks for the help, Chip!  Very knowledgeable and personable guy.

Beware....Beware.....Beware     Rip off business model.  They post prices only to get you in, then start raising your rates. You can expect to pay at least 50% more if you're there a few months. Rates get raised every 90 days.   It is standard operating policy. This is one very bad company.    NEVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.  YOU WILL BE VERY SORRY.
