History

Established in 2003. I'm the owner-operator of Peter's Moving Services. I have purposefully grown my company slowly to maintain our high level of service. All my movers are highly-trained and have been working with me for many years. We pride ourselves on our care and speed. We are timely — and we avoid double-booking, or worse, triple-booking jobs to stay that way. The best way to reach us is by email, as I'm often on a job site.

Peter and his associate just drove away. They packed up my 20' U-haul in just under two hours.  They are a marvel of speed, efficiency and expert packing skills.  From floor to ceiling they packed it all like a puzzle. In the end, I could have saved money and rented a 15' truck and they probably could have gotten it all in there but we have some extra room now.  And that's a tip:  unless you are really good at packing, save money on a smaller truck and hire Peter to tetris it all in there and the money you saved on the truck will pay for his services.Peter said he's been doing this for 14 years and it shows. From the moment he shows up, and he gets a tour of what needs to be loaded, he and his worker walk with speed and determination 100% focused on what they're doing. They're very careful with furniture getting it out the door, they use the blankets I rented abundantly and properly and it was really cool just to watch a team who knows what they're doing, and who knows how to work hard, do it!Completely worth hiring them.  It would have taken me all day to pack the truck.

I'm really torn on how to review Peter's Moving Services. I had a very positive experience with them initially but the relationship turned sour afterwards.First the good. When I contacted Peter, he was very responsive on yelp messaging, email and phone. Peter and a crew of 2 others came to my home to pack and move everything into a storage container. They also disassembled some of my furniture, like a dining table so it would all fit. Overall, I was happy with their cost, speed and professionalism. So I gave them a rather large tip at the end.I asked if they would be willing to help me move everything back out into my new home in a couple of months in Orange County. He said sure as long as I paid their travel cost and I said that would be fine.Fast forward a couple of months. With my new home closing, I try to contact Peter to help me move everything back in as he had promised. I messaged him on yelp, email, txt, call and left several voice messages. He would not respond.I thought this was odd but didn't think much of it so I hired a different moving crew. When I got my storage container, everything looked fine. Things were packed very tightly so nothing had fallen or even budged as far as I could tell. The new moving crew started moving my stuff inside. I was mostly in the storage container watching them move stuff and instructing them which room each item went. As we got towards the end of the storage container, I see the legs of my dining table and one of the moving crew points out that it looks like it's cracked. As I watch him maneuver the legs of the dining table out, I see that it was already broken in 2 pieces. If you can imagine it, the legs of the dining table form a sort of "C" shape, with the legs plus a bridge between them (I've uploaded some pictures). The problem seems that they were packed with nothing but a clear plastic wrapping and they were inserted sideways with the legs parallel to the ground. Some heavy items were placed on top of one leg and I'd imagine the weight of those items snapped the legs in half at some point. I believe that if the dining table legs were fully disassembled, this would not have happened, but Peter's Moving seemed rush.Licensed and insured movers typically offer the standard California-regulated $0.60/lb insurance but Peter said he would repair and replace any damaged item when I first spoke to him. I took some pictures and immediately called Peter in case he needed some additional proof of damage for insurance purposes. Not surprisingly, he did not pick up.I sort of assumed he was out of business due to all the non-responses. I decided to write him a yelp message just to document the problem in case there was some way for me to claim insurance on my own. Surprisingly he responded pretty quickly to that allegation.Unfortunately, the response is not what I was hoping for. He refused to compensate for any damages, not even the standard $0.60/lb california insurance. My suspicion is that this company may not be a licensed and insured in the state of California. I never thought to ask but maybe you should. The dining table was a set that came with 6 chairs (one of which was also damaged) and had a glass top. It cost me about $1k when I bought it 7 years ago. Its weight would probably qualify me for around $100 of damage compensation with the $0.60/lb insurance, about what I tipped them, but this proposal was ignored.Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but now I'm thinking maybe this is why he ignored all my requests for his service. Did they break it when shoving it in and therefore avoided coming back to take responsibility? I can't prove this but it's just odd how he went from being very responsive to not at all and then responsive again after the move and I accused him of damages.Just to be objective, I can understand his stance. There are 3 parties that could be responsible for the damage: the original movers, the storage company, and the final movers. I was there and saw the damage before the final movers touched it so I would rule them out. Everything inside the storage container seemed like it was just as Peter had packed it. Even if the storage company shifted the container during the move, nothing seemed to have moved at all. But ultimately, I believe it is the original movers' responsibility to ensure that things stay put and don't get damaged even if the container moves, which it will because it needs to be transported.I suppose it's my word against his at the end of the day. It sucks losing one of my favorite pieces of furniture and having to replace it.I'm writing this in hopes that you will vet the moving company before choosing one. Perhaps ask if they are licensed and insured (and for proof of it) and how you can prove and claim damages if anything happens. With that said, I'll repeat what Peter told me, which is "damages are rare"...

Absolutely great moving experience! We've been burned by movers before so it's really hard to pick good movers, but I would recommend Peter's Moving Service to anyone and everyone. They arrived 5 mins early, were super polite, and packed everything up WAY faster and better than we could've done ourselves. When we unloaded in a different state, everything was still in exactly the same place and nothing was broken. They went over 3 hours by a few minutes and could have charged us for another half hour or another hour (we've had movers do this before) but they just charged us for the 3 hours. Great service!

My husband and I hired Peter and Zeke for our move a couple weeks ago.  They went above and beyond our expectations - they were courteous, professional, easy to work with, and did a wonderful job moving and handling all of our belongings.  We had never hired movers before and we felt so fortunate that we found such a great team. They were excellent and speedy, and brought along their own dollies and hand trucks.  They packed up the UHaul very efficiently and securely.  We ended up needing more hours than we realized, and they graciously accommodated us.  Thank you Peter and Zeke for making our move such a positive and stress-free experience!
