I just wanted to make you aware of our experience with Bekins so that you would not use their services.  Here is our story. We met and interviewed several moving companies.  Bekins said that they would only use Bekins employees and not contract out any of the work.  They guaranteed our move in date would be June 10th.  They guaranteed our belongs would be well taken care of as well as thorough communication. This is why we went with Bekins. They packed our belongs on time and did a good job.  I spoke with their representative in the office as well as the man handling the move at the house and they both guaranteed that we would move in on June 10th.  So we planned all of our work schedule and help on June 10th.  On June 9th I never heard from Bekins even though all their material states that we would receive a call the day before the move. I called their office around 4 just to make sure everything was okay, and no it wasn't.  They were not going to be able to move us until the next day.  They explained that other people's moves were more important than ours.  On this date the general manager for the Coppell office said he would financially compensate us for our troubles and poor experience thus far with Bekins. So they came the next day to move us in.  They had 2 Bekin employees and the rest were contract employees.  The two employees stayed in the truck while the contract employees brought all of our belongings in.  They didn't put any protective covering on the floor and were in a huge hurry to finish the job so they could get on to another job.  They drug potting soil up the stairs, broke a piano leg, nicked an antique table, broke an antique rocking chair's arm, put a hole in a wall, and cut an upholstered chair with a box cutter.  We spent the next few weeks moving boxes that were place in wrong rooms and locations. Many of our garage boxes were moved upstairs to a bedroom. While we were unpacking we realized that we were missing lots of belongings.  We kept thinking the items would show up.  Finally about a month after our move I called the office.  I am not sure why I never received a phone call a phone call from them.  I called and they said they did have our belongs.  They forgot to unload the underbelly of the truck and they would deliver them to us.  Again, I am not sure why they didn't call us as soon as they realized they didn't deliver all of our items. At this time I asked the general manager about the financial compensation he promised us on June 9th.  He now had no recollection of the conversation. They sent someone out to assess the damage done to our home and belongings.  We agreed on a settlement.  My move coordinator told me a check was probably in the mail on August 18th.  It is now October 10th and we have not received the settlement check.  After I called the claims department in late August, they said they had no idea about our settlement.  They contacted the Coppell office and then I was told I would receive a check the end of September.  When the end of September came around I called the claims manager and emailed him with no response.  Finally I called the the general manager at the Coppell office.  He said he would personally contact me on the 8th and he didn't.  I then received an email with no explanation for the delay stating that the check was cut on that morning. My two biggest complaints are lack of communication and follow through.  I didn't receive communication along the way unless I called and initiated action. I highly regret doing business with Bekins.

I used Texas A-1 Bekins Movers last summer and this October to move us out of our previous house, and then into our new home a few months later after staying in temporary housing during construction.  So, here's the deal.  It's the tale of two experiences.  Not during the moves, but rather dealing with the moving crew, and dealing with the office.  1) Dealing with the Moving Crew -- great guys.  Very professional, hard working, fun to be around, and quite thorough.   I would use these guys again in a heartbeat.  2) Dealing with the corporate office -- horrible.  I actually paid for the most expensive insurance on my stored items, knowing they would be in storage for a few months.  Upon delivery, several items came up missing and broken, as it bound to happen with big moves.  However, after making a thorough list of these inventoried items and reporting them to the office, it has been nearly impossible to get them to respond.  It has been over 6 months, and I haven't heard a single thing about my adjustment / refund for the missing / broken items.  I worked with a woman named Pam Lane in the local office, and she summarily dismissed all of my inquiries for several weeks, to the point which I thought maybe she had left the company.  Until about 6 weeks ago, when I inquired again, and told her that I'd have no recourse than to first report them to the BBB, and perhaps get litigious if that didn't work out, I finally heard back from her saying she'd forwarded my info to the head office.  When I asked her who I should contact in the head office...she once again went missing. The administrative part of the move has been very disconcerting, and I know I'm just getting the runaround.  Therefore, I would discourage anyone from hiring Texas A-1 Bekins movers.  And if you do, don't bother to buy extra insurance.  It won't do you any good.

I don't even know that written words can accurately describe how awful and unprofessional this company is. Things started off great, with a representative coming to our house to view our belongings to give us a more accurate estimate. Problems started, however, when we repeatedly called to schedule the service but no one returned our calls or confirmed they got our messages. I finally got a confirmation, but the day before our move we never got a call to let us know when the movers would be there. The morning of our move, the movers went to the wrong house (the home we were moving TO, not FROM). It took 4 men, plus my husband, SEVEN HOURS to load a 1600sq ft home into a truck. We watched as two movers stood in the truck and shuffled boxes around, while the other 2 movers carried boxes into the house. No wonder it took so long! The truck? Too small. They had to leave behind multiple large items. You would think that if someone came to my house and looked at our entire home, yard, and garage, that they would be able to estimate the right truck size. The manager had the audacity to demand payment BEFORE they would deliver any of our items to our new home- and wasn't even offering a discount at this point. The movers looked and smelled like they had just been picked up from a homeless shelter. After they finished unloading out belongings into our new home (12 hours after the move started), the movers were roaming around our bathroom and looking through boxes. My husband actually had to tell them to leave, because the move was finished. I was told for hours that a manager was coming to assess the situation and speed the process up; he did not show up for 2hrs, and then he went to the wrong house. While the movers were unloading, a manager had gone back to our old house to retrieve some items from our backyard. But since he didn't tell anyone he was going to our home, no one was there, and therefore he could not get any of the items out of the garage or the house. During the move, it rained and they had to take a break for about an hour, but the main guy handling the move was sure to tell my husband it wasn't a big deal "because I'm hourly." Gee, thanks. It probably goes without saying that multiple items were broken, none of our boxes ended up in the correct room, and both of my houses are filthy and littered with their water bottles and floor pads. The next morning, we called the company to say we could meet movers at our old house at 10am to retrieve the rest of the belongings. But the manager said he was ready to go at 8:30am, and we needed to be there. Sorry for inconveniencing YOU! This was the worst moving experience I have ever had, if not the worst service I've received from any kind of business I have ever dealt with. I have two small children, and I can't even articulate what it is like to not have beds for them to sleep in at 10pm. Stay away, stay far, far away from A1 movers.
