Since 1945, U-Haul has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households. Like many other successful ventures, the concept for U-Haul was generated out of need. After World War II, there existed the widespread need for do-it-yourself moving equipment that would be available on a one-way, nationwide basis. U-Haul co-founders L.S. «Sam» Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, recognized that need and acted upon it. Their visionary approach spread the cost of ownership among many users, facilitating the mobility of the populations of the U.S. and Canada. The covered wagon of the pioneers morphed into orange U-Haul trailers. In the process, an industry was born. Discharged from the Navy in the summer of 1945, 29-year-old Sam and Anna Mary tried to rent a utility trailer to move their possessions from Los Angeles to Portland, Ore. It couldn't be done. They had to take only what they could fit in the car.

Check in went pretty smoothly, but the person at the desk could not explain the particulars about getting the added insurance. Nevertheless, check out went well, but the truck was not 100% clean, and the seat had stains on it. The price is fair, but I can imagine how expensive it can be for someone traveling over 100 miles, since it's a .99 for every mile driven. Yet, I'm assuming a rental truck can be costly in general. It's more about convenience and reliability, and I was able to have both of these rendered to me. Bringing back the truck went very smoothly. I'll certainly be back again, but one area of improvement is making sure the truck is clean before renting it to someone.

These people clueless.  Came in to have a hitch installed.  I made the reservation weeks ago.  Waited in line for 40 minutes to be told the hitch installer is not here.  What is the point of a reservation?

Horrible place!!!!  I rented a 26' uhaul truck online and was told to pick it up at this location. When I got there the truck wasn't ready. They didn't clean it out and was a complete mess. On my way back to my house I notice the cab smelled like urine!!!  I call to complain and their response was they couldn't do anything and to call the 800 number to file a complaint. The 800 wasn't any more help eitherTo make matters worse. The truck broke down on our journey from philly to Ohio. The truck lost power steering and brake power... We've been stranded 200 miles from our final destination for almost 24hours

While in storage in a U-Box for 10 weeks, all of my wooden furniture--yes, all of it: 4 chairs, a table, a desk, a small bookshelf, and a bureau--was damaged. My mover was an independent contractor with many years of experience who said that the only way all my furniture could have been damaged in this way, despite being covered in moving blankets, is if the U-Box had been dropped.When I confronted the manager over the phone, he said he didn't know how this could have happened because they store everything at ground-level. He referred me to their insurance company and didn't once offer even a semblance of an apology about the fact that my furniture was damaged and a plastic box of my things had busted open all over the inside of the U-Box.Additionally, the manager got both my pick-up and drop-off times wrong, causing major inconvenience to me and my movers. The manager also lied about me to my mover, claiming that I had called him at 10 at night--when really I had called him at 8:15 because I hadn't received the confirmation phone call that I was promised I would get the day before my scheduled pick-up. (That was of course because they thought I was supposed to have picked up my U-Box the previous weekend--but I didn't get a confirmation call then, either! If I had, I would have corrected the date!)In short: I would not recommend this storage facility under any circumstances. There are better, more professional, less risky options out there.
