Is it weird to be in love with your storage place? Well it happened to me. Seriously I don't have enough great things to say about 21st Century Storage. I looked a several of their competitors (literally went and visited storage units) when I was looking to for a large drive up unit to store all my belongings PLUS an ever-growing supply of appliances and materials I/my contractor would be using to renovate my house. I have to say that every other place I looked was a.) a total rip off, b.) false advertising. I needed a unit where 1.) I could physically drive up to it and unload heavy appliances (every other "drive up" I looked at was a labyrinth of corridors leading from the parking lot to your unit), and 2.) a place with extended access hours so that my contractor could access the unit early in the morning before a day of construction but I could also go there later after my work day. 21st Century Storage was literally the only place that ACTUALLY offered these things. Additionally, no hidden fees, awesome sign up deal and easy/straightforward cancellation when I needed it. And finally...the people who work there are great. Seriously. It's so nice to interact with people who recognize you and build a positive relationship with them. I appreciated seeing them around the property keeping an eye on things and they were always in the office when I needed them. They made what could have been a nightmare situation really pleasant and I actually looked forward to stopping by my unit amidst the craziness of my first home renovation.

You will think you're getting a good deal when you move in, but they will raise your rate significantly every six months. We stored our stuff for less than two years, and they raised our rate three times. Our monthly fee nearly doubled in those two years.The facility is located in an extremely economically depressed part of the city, and we had several experiences at the facility that made us feel uneasy, and made us wonder if our stored items were really safe there (e.g., a car drove in behind us when we used our access code to open the gate, and then people who obviously did not own the unit next to ours tried to open it without success). Ultimately, we had no losses, but we never felt safe there. I tried for the full two years that we were customers to enable on-line payments. There was a problem with the way they initially set up my account, but I could never get anyone from tech support to contact me (I tried maybe 4 times over the two years). I received absolutely no response. The office staff at the location were responsive, but tech support was non-existent.Things were often broken at the facility, e.g., doors not working properly, etc. It seemed to take forever for these things to be fixed.There are legions of mice and cockroaches. There was a scattering of mouse poop covering all of the boxes we stored, and we even found a dead mouse at the back of our unit when we moved out (I uploaded a photo). On one occasion, I opened the door to our unit, and a juvenile cockroach looked up at me. We've since moved our items to a different storage facility, and it's like night and day. We're paying a little more, but given how often 21st Century raised our rates, we reasoned that we would be paying that much, or more, in a very short time anyway, so it didn't make sense to stay.

5 star to 1 star. Once you get to know the people you will want to move your stuff. Ghetto staff.

It's official. I've been with this company for four years and my rent has doubled. They will first raise your rent after six months, and then about $10 annually. Given their abhorrent location, it is only worth renting from this company if you only need a unit for a few months.

Super nice self-storage place. Sparkling clean, the manager I dealt with was really a good guy, and the facility is as state-of-the-art as these things get. They recycle everything in the office, have free moving carts, climate control, and are cheaper than anyone else in Philly. I don't know why you wouldn't go here, aside from location.
