I have made several long distance moves, so I know what I'm doing.  I called First America out to my place for an accurate onsite inventory and estimate for a move from NYC to California. I did all my homework, checking BBB, licenses, and references; they gave me a good price so I booked them.  Big mistake. The movers showed up 2 hours late and were difficult from the moment I opened the door.  They tried to charge me for various unnecessary fees, $75 for a plastic bag to cover the mattress, $10 for a roll of tape, and so on. The movers were very passive aggressive playing  the "I just work here" card.  My estimator, in charge of my move, was conveniently no where to be found. The manager on call was rude and condescending, but I got the charges dropped after several phone calls.  The move (cubic feet) ended up being 25% over the estimate. Considering I had a "professional mover" survey all my belongs I was very upset that they either intentionally or accidently were so far off. I expressed this to the manager, who would do nothing about it, and requested my estimator call me back to discuss the discrepancy. He never called, despite repeated messages.  Not returning calls is a theme. They never called me to confirm delivery. I was constantly chasing them down.  When I did manage to get my stuff, 2 hours late again, more passive aggressive difficulties.  They wouldn't even try to pull the truck in the driving way, even though the complex manager assured him it was done all the time. $75 later they hand carried it all.  And no receipt for that $75, I'm sure the mover pocketed it. The number stickers had fallen off  of my boxes, making checking off the inventory list impossible. I won't know if I have everything until I complete unpack.  Moving is stressful enough, these guy seem to go out of their way to make it even more so. Pick another company.
