I used Chevalier for my move this August. They were recommended to me by the Bed Bug Fumigation Specialists. I had a multi part move that involved picking up my belongs, fumigating them, storing them for a few weeks, and then returning them to me. Chevalier was really an overall disappointment. 1. They refused to send me a COI which my building asked for- JD straight up ignored all requests for one. 2. JD wouldn't tell me where my belongings were stored post-fumigation. He eventually gave me the location but never the unit so I was unable to access them. 3. On my move-in day he emailed me 4 hours prior to the scheduled delivery window and told me he wouldn't be coming that day. They had my bed and air conditioners and it was 97 degrees out that day so I told him I was unable to sleep in my apartment without a mattress and AC. I requested he pay for a hotel for the night- which he did. 4. However, when the movers came the next day my belongings were very much worse for the wear. My mattress cover was completely destroyed- it appeared to have been laying in a puddle of dirty water. Four boxes of glassware clearly labeled "FRAGILE" and very carefully packed and wrapped were absolutely shattered. And my power tools which were missing (I am assuming stolen..as I'm not sure where else they would have gone). 5. JD refused to answer any of my calls or emails regarding my damaged and missing belongings. 6. A few weeks after my move I received a call from the storage facility claiming I owed them money for the storage- it was part of my contract with Chevalier that the storage was covered so I guess they decided to not pay that bill. Long story short- I am clearly not the first Yelper to have this experience. A moving company has one job- to move all your belongings carefully and on time- Chevalier failed on both accounts. I'm only giving two stars because he did reimburse me for the hotel when he failed to bring my things on the scheduled day.

Avoid them! I lost more than 5 items during moving process and 10 more items damaged. I sent JD these pictures and he said he will pay for damages. But, he didn't do anything and never hang up again.Just, avoid them. Do not work with them and be a happy moving! There are bunch of better moving companies in NYC!

I have never experienced anything as awful as working with this company. They are criminals and I warn you NOT to use them. My husband and I are submitting a complaint to better business bureau. At first Jean (the owner) was very responsive and nice. Once we booked them they came late, took forever to move our stuff and we're clueless on how to move. The team he hired did not work well together and damaged our furniture and ripped our mattress. Not to mention fighting with each other during the move. They were supposed to do a fumigation and said they knew how to prepare. However, they lied. They wrapped our furniture in shrink wrap when they were instructed not to. They over stuffed the truck (while breaking furniture) and never removed the shrink wrap causing the fumigation we paid for to not work and actually increased the spread of bugs!They were instructed to come pick up our stuff to fix the problem. They agreed to do it. Then they never showed up. Jean refused to answer the calls and texts leaving us in the dark as to whether or not they were coming. We finally got a hold of him on Monday by using a fake number he couldn't screen. He said he would come on Tuesday. Tuesday came and then he cancelled an hour before. The worst experience and I highly encourage you to find other movers, Jean still has not returned our messages. He took our money and left. I'm warning everyone.. stay away from this company.

I moved at the beginning of July. I used this company because I had bed bugs in my previous place and was doing the overnight fumigation and this was one of the companies the fumigation place had recommended. So it was a 2-stage move. On day 1, two men came to load up the truck. One of them seemed to know what he was doing and was nice and moved things in a reasonable amount of time. The other guy seemed less experienced, but was also polite and helped to get the job done. I had been in touch with JD prior to the move and he had been very responsive and helpful with all my questions. On day 2, there was a new guy, plus the one from the previous day who did not seem very experienced. Well, it was as if they had never moved before, particular the "new" guy. I literally had to direct them on how to get a couple of things through the door. Then I noticed that they had scratched two pieces of furniture. It wasn't the end of the world because I didn't care much about these particular pieces (old IKEA stuff), but the point is, they need to be more careful. I politely pointed it out and asked that they take better care with the remainder of my stuff. The less experienced guy said nothing and the other guy just said, "Okay". No apologies or anything. They finally got everything in. I called JD and let him know that two of my pieces were scratched. I told him didn't care too much and I wasn't trying to get the movers in trouble, but that I thought he should be aware. He said he'd talk to them. Then 2 days later, I noticed 2 scratches on my Crate and Barrel bookshelf. This, I was NOT okay with. I wrote to JD immediately, sent him photos of the scratches and asked for a partial refund. He said that instead, they could pick it up and fix the marks. I said, great - when could they come by? No response. I followed up 2-3 days later and got no response. I followed up again a couple days later and basically pleaded with them to give me $100 back just so I could get this fixed myself. NO RESPONSE. Honestly, as a moving company, your one and only job is to get stuff from point A to point B and not screw it up. And they scratched THREE items and I got nothing for it. Do not use these guys. JD may seem nice, but the movers are useless and then he goes back on his word about fixing stuff. I was moving from a studio and it cost me over $1200. You'd think with that kind of money they'd be careful, but I was wrong.

I had a particularly complicated move as my belongings had to be fumigated mid-move for a bed bug infestation (ugh). The fumigation service recommended Chevalier as a moving company they had worked with in the past and I am so glad I used them. JD was very easy to work for for facilitating all the arrangements, and the movers themselves were professional, quick and helpful. They even helped fix my bed frame, which I had incorrectly assembled, without my asking. Between the infestation and moving, the whole process was pretty stressful and JD and team made it as easy as possible. I would highly recommend them for your move!
