This is a long overdue review of Ben Hur in NYC. Writing it after a less than stellar experience with another moving company. Instead of giving them a poor review, wanted to give a shout out to Ben Hur. I used Ben Hur in 1998 for a Manhattan to Brooklyn move, then again in 2005 for a Brooklyn to Brooklyn move, and again in 2016 for a Brooklyn to Brooklyn move. For the last one, Ben Hur packed up our entire apartment and did everything. All at a fair price every time, nothing ever broken, movers all polite, good guys, never asking for more money in the middle of the job because of some supposed items not on the list. A month ago I moved one last time. Went with somebody whose quote was significantly cheaper. During the move, they said certain items weren't "on the list" and said the price would go up or they couldn't move them. A lot of haggling. Watched them drop a TV. Bunch of stuff ended up broken. Price ended up being higher than Ben Hur. 3 great experiences with Ben Hur. 1 bad one when I went elsewhere. Go with Ben Hur.

I've used Ben Hur 3 times now and they've always been excellent. This last time was a multi-step move: gathering stuff from storage units in the Bronx and Brooklyn, my office in Manhattan, everything in our Brooklyn Apartment and then hauling it down to Delaware. They guys were friendly, good humored, and FAST. Very very happy with their work each time!

If I could give this company zero stars, I would.Called on Sunday afternoon (January 10th) to schedule a time for someone to do a walk through with regards to a moving quote. Spoke with a gentleman who stated he could come the following morning (January 11th) at 7am to do a walk through before I had to leave for work. Woke up the next morning bright and early to prepare, only to be stood up. It is now Tuesday, January 12th, and STILL no one has called to (i) apologize or (ii) reschedule. If this company can't even keep a simple appointment, who knows if they are capable of actually moving!

ZERO STARS. I signed up for Yelp just to write this review. I moved recently and I did not know of any moving companies and Ben Hur came up as a recommendation. STAY AWAY. My 2 and 1/2 year old tv's screen was badly damaged and they did not offer compensation/repair for the damage. Be very careful with them because the estimator will appear very helpful and professional and it is the total opposite the day of your move. STAY AWAY.
