This U-Haul location is one of the worst in the city of Chicago. I originally decided to use this company's trucks due to the fact that I was going to be placing my furniture in one of its storage units. I personally spoke with the manager, and he reserved a storage unit for me, as well as a truck. When my movers and I showed up to retrieve the truck, the truck was nowhere to be found. The manager told me that I had to come back within 2-3 hours, as the truck wasn't ready. The manager didn't even try to find me another truck. When I complained about the problem, he still didn't try to resolve anything. When we came back to finally pick up the truck (which had been returned much earlier than the 2-3 hour window that the manager told us, yet the manager failed to call me to tell me that I could pick the truck up earlier!), I immediately demanded that my truck rental be discounted. After much hemming and hawing, I finally got a discount on my truck. I then decided to see the storage unit. The manager then decided to tell me that he no longer had my reserved storage unit available for me (he had given it away while I was waiting for the truck to be reserved!). When I started yelling at him (along with my movers), he decided to show me two other units (one of which was on one floor, and another unit which was totally halfway on the other side of the building). Both units were totally unacceptable, but due to the fact that I had no other choice at that moment, I had to take the units that were available. I made the manager put in writing that he would rent the storage units to me at a discounted rate as well, due to the fact that he gave away my confirmed units. Because of the truck and storage unit fiasco, my movers and I were not able to put my furniture into storage that same night, as the U-Haul location closed. Therefore, I had to keep all of my furniture locked up in the U-Haul truck overnight, and pray that no one would break into my truck while I was sleeping. Luckily I had made the manager give me (free of charge) a deadbolt lock for the truck, as it was clearly his fault as to why my furniture would not be placed into storage that night. I also ran into another problem with the storage units. I was told that my two replacement storage units were heated. This was a total lie. All of my electronic items were damaged due to the fact that it was winter and my units were NOT heated. Despite the fact that I had the manager's statement to the fact that the units were heated, he denied any responsibility whatsoever for the damage to my items.Another lovely issue I had a problem with at this location was the lack of courtesy of the staff. (But then again, if I had this many problems with the manager, that should have been my indication of what the staff would be like). I came in once on a Sunday afternoon to make a payment on my storage units. I was told by the "customer service representative" (and I use that term loosely) that I could not make a payment due to the fact that he was closing the shop early. I asked him why the store was being closed in the middle of the day. He stated that he was closing the store so that he could go home and watch the Super Bowl. This "explanation" was simply ludicrous to me. I had called in advance of my arrival to inquire as to the store hours and informed the customer service representative that I would be coming in to make a payment. I was told that this would be fine. Yet when I arrived there, the customer service representative was trying to do anything and everything in his power to keep me from handing over my money in order to make a payment. When I reminded him of all the drama I went through with his manager, and threatened to not make any more payments as a result of his attitude, then he relented and decided to take my payment. I still couldn't believe that a company was planning on allowing a staff member to close the shop due to the Super Bowl, as if it were an actual national holiday. I advise any and everyone to STAY AWAY from this location, unless you are in a dire emergency and have no other place to store your furniture. Even then, you are taking your chances with this U-Haul location.
