I found this company off Craigslist (the name of the company was not in the ad; probably due to all these terrible reviews). Things started off well, and It was easy to set up the moving time and date for 2 hours, and I received a confirmation call the day before. On the day of the move, I got a call 10 minutes after the scheduled time that they would be 45 min - 1 hour late. Apparently, the move ahead of me had forgotten to reserve her elevator time slot which pushed things back an hour. Sure, things happen, but as someone who did NOT forget to reserve an elevator time slot, this would shake out to 15 minutes for Second City Movers to load up, drive 20 minutes to the new place, and 15 minutes to unload. Sounds really tight, doesn't it?  Crazy as that sounds, I was still willing to give it a try as I had no other option lined up. Here's the thing - the company was well aware of my elevator reservation. They had called me the day before saying they had a cancellation and if I wanted to move earlier? I said the elevator is already scheduled from this time to this time, and they said okay. Because of this, I asked the man on the phone that I only pay for the time when they arrived until my hard deadline (which they knew about, and in my mind, a fair question to at least ask, knowing in the back of my mind it might not work out). This one question immediately prompted a defensive and brusque attitude. He used the 2 hour minimum as a crutch. Clearly I had been fully prepared to pay this by originally scheduling 2 hours, but when I pointed that out, his entire attitude was essentially tough rocks but in the form of many excuses. Things disintegrated due to his immediately combative attitude. If you like being called a terrible person, then this is the company to call! Clearly cancelled the move at that point, and called Marathon Movers. I absolutely second the other review that mentioned them as a great company!!! Save yourself stress and just call them first.  Odd twist to this saga: 2 hours later, I received a call from ABC Moving company, saying that they had heard we needed movers and were outside. What?????????? Apparently the referring company was Second City Movers. Hmmmm?????? The movers from ABC were nice but I went with Marathon, but overall this was an unexpected twist.

WOW. If only they hadn't used a DIFFERENT NAME in their Craigslist ad. These guys also go by the name "Champion Movers" - I plan to write a similar review there and I will ask R.G. to duplicate his review. This is why we have Yelp. But it's sometimes hard to keep up with all the crappy businesses.I spoke with Champion Movers -- found out they were also "Second City Movers" from their voicemail and confirmed a move. 6:30 p.m. came and went. No one showed. The guy did call, to his credit, and made all kinds of excuses. He said they "could have come earlier" -- well, the appt wasn't for earlier?!? it was for that time?! He then offered to come later... like, way later... at 8 p.m. My boyfriend was waiting at his office late for them and an extra 1.5 hours wasn't going to help. He went home pissed but hey, that's life. We rescheduled for 1 p.m. today.Well it's 2:24.p.m...aaand... guess what? No Second City / Champion movers. No call. No text. I even called him this morning to reconfirm. We spoke and he was totally lucid... DON'T BE FOOLED! I explained my boyfriend's office was CLOSING ... like, FOR GOOD, FOREVER, and this was our ONLY WINDOW to get the furniture we were taking home. No answer. I am scrambling to find someone else now. Unbelievable. Shitty, shitty movers.

So I decided to try and save some money with this company by responding to their Craigslist add. I scheduled movers and was quoted $155 which I was thrilled about. They even called the day before to confirm my appointment. Unfortunately they did not show up the day of my appointment and would not pick up their phone. I scrambled to find last minute movers and it ended up costing me $600. Second City Movers called me back 4 hours after my scheduled time and they told me that their phones were down and that they were really busy. I had already paid my last minute movers so they were of no help.A few days later I called hoping that they would help pay the difference given their unprofessional behavior. They do not pick up their phones nor return my messages. Do not ever use them! They might actually be good movers but I unfortunately never got to find out.

If I could give zero stars I would. I called these guys about a month before my scheduled move date, hoping to get a spot secured and have some peace of mind. I spoke with a guy who SEEMED professional on the phone. He ensured me that they had moved several people into my new apartment building. That made me feel much better knowing that they were familiar with my new place. He told me that the day before my move, I would receive a confirmation phone call. The day before finally came. It was 7:30 PM and I still hadn't received that phone call. Getting nervous, I gave them a call to see that everything was on track. The same guy (i think) that I spoke with a month before, confirmed my appointment. When I asked why I hadn't received a phone call to confirm, he rudely told me how busy they were that day and how I would have EVENTUALLY received a phone call. Fine, as long as they show up, I don't care, right? WRONG.I woke up the next morning at about 7AM to a TEXT (yes a text) from the movers that said: Our truck is having mechanical problems and cannot be drive. Therefore we will not be able to move you this morning. We are very sorry about this. WHAT?! Okay,  I understand, "mechanical issues" happen, trucks break down. Fine. What I have a problem with, is that they TEXTED me this information. After receiving the text, I proceeded to call them FOUR TIMES. No answer. Absolutely nothing. If you are going to run a professional business, then act like professionals. Call your clients if there is a problem. Don't ignore their calls. I should have listened to my gut and ran from these guys after not finding many reviews or any information on them AND after learning that they go between the name "Second City Movers" and "Champion Movers" ....??? Pick a name!! My advice is to RUN far, far away from this company. Do not be fooled by their "professionalism" on the phone. They will screw you over. The only upside to this is that I did not put any money down or sign a contract, so I didn't lose out on anything. Also, because of this I was able to find a WONDERFUL company that pulled through for me within an hour of Second City flaking out. (Marathon Movers, CALL THEM!!!)My final opinion: clearly a child is running this "company". They should do themselves a favor, sell their truck and find a different profession.
