History

Established in 1991. Sterling Van Lines was founded in 1991 by a professional mover named Gerald Cassidy. At that time Jerry had been a professional mover for his entire adult life and had worked for most of the major moving companies. In that time he had accumulated a small fleet of trucks that served various major moving companies. Then in 1995 Jerry became aware of the need for a small move moving company to service moves that were too big for pack and ship companies but also too small for the major van lines who needed larger loads. Since then we have grown each year servicing estate moves, piano moves, antique moves and any combination of smaller moves including many celebrities. We are blessed with unsolicited success stories every week of the year and have now serviced over 20,000 moves.

If you've got a small-scale move, these folks are for you! I shopped around based on price, schedule and reputation and these folks come to the top. This being my first time I moved professionally, they were helpful in explaining the process and accurately estimating my price over the phone. Of of the things I will caution is that being flexible is key. They way you get a price-competitive small-scale move is because your stuff is being loaded on a truck with other folks' along the same route, so a custom scheduled pickup or dropoff is gonna cost you $.Remember on added insurance, that's only gonna be big stuff. Small stuff only counts if they packed it. Some homeowner's/renter's insurance provides inland marine coverage, but most don't.

I used this company twice to move across the country. Both moves were smooth and painless. I chose their pallet service which means everything has to be boxed up or be small and flat. They gave me an estimate based on the number of boxes I thought I would have and a time window when they would pick it up. The driver was communicative and able to let me know about an hour ahead that he would be arriving. He loaded the pallets and then shrink wrapped each. My things arrived within 2 weeks each time and were in good shape. I highly recommend this company and this particular service.

I used Sterling to move a Piano from New Jersey to Chicago. Everything they told me about the entire process happened. There were no issues or hiccups along the way. All of the staff on the phone and email were great. Great communication all around from everyone. I would recommend them for piano moving or if you are doing any cross country moves.
